What could be wrong if white smoke comes out of exhaust?

The dealer told me I have white smoke coming out of the exhaust. What could be wrong with the engine.

White smoke is unburned fuel, or a coolant leak. If your radiator is full, then one injector is leaking and putting too much fuel.

Need info about your truck. There are some TSB's for white smoke.



By the way, the process is supposed to be: you tell the dealer that you are having a problem with the truck, and then they determine what the fix is. Your dealer seems to have this process backwards.

The dealer told me about the white smoke. I've been having trouble with this truck for months. I wanted to have an idea of what would be the problem so when the dealer tells me they fixed it I can ask them how they corrected the problem.

You must have a 04. 5 or newer truck. . Normal as per the dealer, though they do have a tsb for it. Mine did it for the first 8k miles and all of a sudden it just stopped. can't say why but it now is just fine. My 04 305/555 never did it. But, it had its own problems that were much more serious. That is why I have an 04. 5 now. I say that you have nothing to worry about because most likely you dealer will just do the tsb and say live with it. Mine always went away after the first 1/8 mile on a cold morning. Good luck!

Last winter, which was "many mods ago" my truck would give white smoke on cold mornings everyday. As previously stated it would go away within a mile of driving. Interestingly, while it would stop smoking shortly after startup while at idle, it would blow smoke after it was put in gear and throttled. I think that when real cold like under 15deg f. these suckers will not warm up much while at idle and zero load.



That said, my truck has never had white smoke when the temps are above 40deg f. So far I have seen low 40's this fall and no smoke whatsoever, unless you count the black kind, that gets induced by Mr. TST and my right foot.
