Well I read about a member who not only removed the plastic tube channel from the quarter panel into the stock intake but also cut some holes in the stock box to help airflow. Well I did this and man it sounds like I have a huge exhaust leak. I thought opening up the intake might make the turbo more audible but not the exhaust. Do I have a problem here? Thanks for your input.

Yeah, you sure you cut the holes in the bottom half of the air box???? I just took my BHAF off and put the air box back on, I drilled two additional 2 inch holes, one on the out side, beside the existing big hole and one in the bottom. It is much quieter than the BHAF. SNOKING

Noticeable difference right? I am planning on putting my stck box back on too. Just too noisy with BHAF.

Sounds like the noise is normal then.

SNOKING,

I did put holes in bottom half. I was thinking about BHAF but not anymore! Yours must have been even LOUDER.

DCreed,

Thanks for the offer. Noise isn't too bad. Box isn't damaged just holes for extra flow.

Those high airflow aftermarket setups sure must be really loud.

I wonder though if it is doing any good. With stock setup I used to see 18-19 psi boost. Pulling a strong hill today I thought I saw 20. Now is that a result of the extra airflow or have I hit 20psi before and just didn't notice.

What are you using for a filter in that box? AFE has a low restriction unit that drops in & still filters out the fine stuff. It's the Pro Guard 7. Geno's has them

darkhorse,

Just have a regular filter from napa. I've heard of the pro guard 7 from AFE. Do you like it and notice a difference?

higher boost requires higher flow in and out of the engine. All turbo upgrades specify a better intake/exhaust. the HX35w can do 35psi ,you'll get a map code soon without a boost fooler as the truck defuels @ 19psi.

Well that stinks! No wonder why the truck sounds like it's spitting at the top end when I accelerate wile towing. If the HX35 can handle more I wonder why Dodge/Cummins added programming to defuel at 19psi?

Today I added a Magnaflow short SS resonantor. A short test drive did not reveal much difference, I will have to get it out on the road and see if the exhaust brake is quieter.

Next is to sound deaden the cab. SNOKING

My BHAF is the NAPA paper one, I think its rather quiet. Maybey a little more noise that total stock. My "swiss cheese" stock box/ K&N had alot more intake noise, I kinda liked it better.

Is the afe drop in an oiled filter like K&N? I'm thinkin of goin back to the stock box, I tried bhaf to help with exhaust heat, but without a heat shield, its almost worse, sittin there suckin' all that air right off the hot side of the engine.

obert, there aer MANY shield avail for those( on EBAY under $100 shipped!), or DIY.
And yes, like the K&N oiled ,but the AMSOIL EA drop-in isn't.

Well I drove the truck alot today and it is much quieter. I also put a turned down tip on the exhaust. EB still babbles a bit. SNOKING

There is a product out there... shame on me for not remembering:confused:... which improves cab noise. They sell it in two parts. One is for cab noise. The other is for outside engine noise. Both use a high temp blanket of sorts that wraps the entire engine, oil pan and under hood. These blankets are specifically designed for our trucks. It sounded really good. I just am not interested. I should have bookmarked the website though for others. I even tried a search and I can't find it. Sorry about that. Good luck on your quest for sound deaden.

Forget to mention the only question I have about any sound deadening which wraps anything in blankets of sorts is increased engine temps and other parts that are wrapped as well. Just thinking aloud...

There is no difference in noise with the PG7. It is an oiled filter like the K&N but filters finer. It also goes a very long time before needing cleaning. I've had no trouble with oil residue in the air intake if that is of concern. It will pass a lot more air than the stock paper element but that isn't something one would notice other than keeping egt's down.
