What Direction Does A Turbo Turn?

Anybody know what direction the turbo spins and are all turbos set up to spin the same way?

From past posts, I would think Chad Sheets would be the answer man here. Ours spin clockwise if you are looking at it from the front. Exhaust comes in from the bottom side pushing it away from the engine. Seems to me that the turbos on the Cummins 903's that I used to run spun the same as ours. That is the extent of my experience.

Does it make a difference. Depends on which way the blades are cut. Doc, you have way too much time on your hands now.

Thats really easy look at the outlet and the turbo turn towards it... .

Depends on whether you are in forward or reverse

Depends on how fast you lift off the "go" pedal... if it's barking, it's running backwards, or trying to...

Doc, They sometimes spin in a circular direction. When the centripetal force (acceleration towards the center) exceeds the centrifugal force (acceleration away from the center) they fly apart. When that happens, they are no longer spinning but then inertia takes over when means that objects traveling in a particular direction will resist change to the direction of travel. Therefore, it's all relative to what point you look at the turbo and how much acceleration has been applied. There are too many variables to consider when trying to answer your question. Next.

Always spin in the correct direction, unless they are on Duramaxipads, then they spin in a direction causing them to SUCK!

I forgot to answer the second part of your question. Yes they all spin the same way. They all rotate around the horizontal center shaft.

I know for a fact that my Volvo Turbo turned to the right if I turned that big, funny-looking wheel in front of the driver's seat clockwise. If I turned it counterclockwise, it turned to the left.



Based on my limited experience with my new Dodge/Cummins Turbo, the same thing seems to hold true. I don't know if this is the case with all turbo vehicles, however. I'll keep checking and get back to you on this.
