Can someone please explain what 3k Gov springs do and the pros and cons of such a modification?

I'm trying to plan my BOMBs and not sure if this should be included.

Thanks!

Dan

The 3000 kit basicaly raises your rpm level to that rpm same with the 3400 rpm kit with exhaust springs No cons about it that Im aware of... . but defently do one or the other it lets you tighten the rubber band a bit for more power.....

Definitely should be on the BOMB to-do list. Doesn't feel like you're running out of engine at 70. One of the best BOMBs I've done, so far. :D

Do I need to do any other mods with a 3k spring kit?

rjones mentioned about exhaust springs - but that seems to be in relation to the 3400 kit.

Thanks!

no exhaust springs with 3k kit... ... the instructions that come with it will tell you everything you need to know... ...

The heavier exhaust springs are for use with an exhaust brake and/or 4K gov springs. I've got 3K's and really like them. It broadens your power band. Definitely a must do.

The only known downside will be the sudden onset of bombitis , for which their is no known cure.

Just an observation??

If you have even the slightest EGT issues prior to a GSK install, you will really see higher egts as you allow the RPMS to climb.

Not really a problem, just something to keep in mind. Most likely operation at RPMS levels above 2800 is very rarely and higher EGTs up there can be toy with as long as not abused.

I had no EGT with #11 2/3 forward with exhaust and intake mods. Added 3GSK and EGTs abouve 3000 get real high. I never drive at those RPMs so I keep in mind if I need to.

Dan,PUT the SPRINGS in,you will not believe the difference!!:D my truck would not go over 82 mph before, after 120 mph easy:eek: don't forget injectors and turbo and hold on!!

another downside

A minor problem with governor springs is a rpm flutter or idle bounce.

Mine happens only if I reduce throttle from go to 1,200 rpm or so. If I drop it fully to idle, there is no problem.

JJW, on the other hand has a very noticeable flutter. If you gave it go and then dropped off if would flutter around 1,200 rpm and then drop to idle setting.

Get the governor springs and then a plate. I really like it.

The winter driveability is so much better after the two I cannot describe.

Hi Dan,

It's your 'ol buddy Ben. You've helped me enough with my failing Fuel Shutdown Solenoid that I owe you big time. Have PTo cable on order and I'm bypassing the solenoid completely as soon as it arrives... aaaahhhhh.

I love my 3k GSK! Very significant and noticable BOMB.

A stock truck is like a horse with hobbles on it's feet. The GSK is like removing the hobbles and letting the horse run free...

A stock truck is like running a race and breathing through your nose the whole time. The GSK is like running the race with your mouth wide open...

nuff said?

The most significant part of doing the switch to the different springs is counting the number of turn on each of the two hold down nuts so that you can count the same number of turns when reinstalling the new ones.

You'll need a small pencil-sized diameter telescoping magnet to help lift the springs in and out of either the hole in the side of govenor housing (behind the fuel solenoid shutdown shaft) or from the top with the AFC housing and torque plate removed. Difficulty level?... . somewhere in the neighborhood of a carburator rebuild - except it's all done through a small hole. You'll feel like an orthoscopic surgeon while your doing it.

I did mine from the top.

PM me when you get into it and I'll help you through it. The kit should come with instructions, but just in case - don't hesitate to holler.

LarryB helped me understand what needed to be done during the install when I did mine and I'm indebted. Thanks Larry!

Good luck Dan.
