I am new to this Cummins diesel arena. I have for over 50,000 miles driven a 99 Ram 2500 with V10, and am now awaiting the arrival of my 2001 High Output diesel with six speed transmission.

My background with Dodge four wheel drive spans some 29 years, including the WDX-WM300 1-ton Power Wagons, the M-series militarys, and the W-series trucks from the 60's. I also happen to publish a magazine called the Power Wagon Advertiser. I have worked as a dealership mechanic in automobile and truck dealerships.

Having said all that, I am drowning in all these acronyms and mysterious terms used to describe modifications and accessories to your trucks. What do they all mean?

My question: What advice do you have to find out what all this means? Is there a glossary of terms and acronyms somewhere on this site I have not yet found?

Thank you for your assistance.

Here are some examples of what I mean:

ETH, DEE, DD, EZ, DD3 Injectors, HX-40, Psychotty, Dynamat, "special" Brite-Box, DD3s and DD TTPM, DTT 93% TC, DTT custom tuned VB, (enhanced by DTT),VA, BD, VB, pressure loc, VA box, 2Low Kit, Brite Box, just to name a few... .

Specifically, I mean all the stuff mentioned in signatures, and often in posts.

What is the red valve cover for, why do people want them?

I could not find an entry with the stainless steel chicken screen, but I still would like to know what it is... .

thank you

ETH is the high output motor. . 245HP, DEE is the six spd transmission behind the ETH, EZ is an add-on box that changes timing on our Cummins and adds some fuel, HX-40 is a bigger turbo that keeps exhaust temps under control, Psyscotty is a second generation design of an airbox that reduces exhaust gas temps by putting cooler air in, DD3s are injectors made in Las Vegas that give our Cummins approx 100hp gain, DD TTPM is similar to the EZ, except specifically designed to go with the DD3s, VA is also similar to the EZ except by a different company-adds fuel and changes timing(no boost module), 2Lowkit is a kit sold by BD in Abbottsford that allows you to use 2wd low range,...

]The red valve cover is a valve cover sold by Cummins... it says Cummins on it instead of Dodge. Search the threads... there are pics of them.

I have no idea what SS Chicken Screen is!

thank you

Thank you for your reply... .

What do these various add-on boxes do to the Chrysler warranty? Is the warranty void with chips, control boxes and the like?

Notice I didn't try to explain all that auto transmission stuff?

I don't own one, and don't study them! I'll leave that to others!

As far as warrantees go... anything you add on to your Ram can void the warantee... or at least cause you some legal fees fighting with the Moss-Magnuson Act(??). Some dealers will void you for anything, others will not...

Gordon:

Yes. Check out the many posts on this tender subject.

Have Fun.

Welcome to the TDR,

My suggestion would be to just hang out and read the different posts by all the members. Many of the acronyms will be come clearer as you read the threads, and learn about the stuff people make and do to our trucks. Most of them either stand for the initials of the company who makes the items, like DTT for Diesel Transmission Technology or TC for Torque Converter, which they make. :)

let's see ..... stainless steel chicken cloth ... could that be ... stainless steel hardware cloth ... ????

Life is good!!
