Well heres my situation. I work 40 hrs a week right now and im starting school in a few weeks. Im taking 8 credit hours (part-time student) at night 2 nights a week. both classes are from 6:30 - 9:45. Ive been offered another job i can take part time at night, and on weekends. Im thinking maybe work from 4 - 10 2 nights a week and work saturday and sunday 8 hrs a day. Dont laugh but this job is going to be selling shoes at marshall feilds on commision. My mom called me saying she can get me this job and shes 100% sure. I said ill think about it. I wouldnt mind the extra money. My mom used to work in shoes and made 33 dollars an hour  she said alot has changed though and the people there are making around 15 bucks an hour. I wouldnt mind that at all. . Ill be working a total of about 68 hours a week and going to school for 6-1/2 hours a week. Lookin at how much id be bringing in a week instead of just bring in what a normal apprentice would make every week id be bringing home about 700 bucks a week... that looks good to me :) What about my social life though... will be hit pretty hard but now that i think of it we sit around most of the time. I also think my working out will be cut down alot but i dont mind all that much. Hopefully ill still get in the gym 3-4 times a week. Im thinkin with the help of red bulls, caffeine pills, and stress relief i can do this...

Opinions/ suggestions / any input ?

BTW, If i do take this job i can get you guys shoes from feilds. Ill get you some deals :)

Watching Al Bundy on Married With Children leads me to believe there are some perks to being a (LADIES) shoe salesman.

I tried going to school and working in high school. I would go to high school from 8AM- 3PM work from 3:30 to 6 at a heavy equipment shop, then take night classes at the community college from 6:30 to 10. I made good money (for someone in high school), but it wasn't worth it. All the money in the world won't do you any good without time to have fun with it. Now that I'm at a university, I work full time in the summer and take around 16 hours a semester in the fall and spring. I should be out in 5 total years which is becoming the standard now.

I like what I do now because I'm always looking forward to something. Towards the end of the school year I'm ready to go back to work and towards the end of the summer I'm looking forward to starting school again.

Like Bob said, you're only young once. Enjoy it while you can and don't worry about making big bucks until you're through with school.

Bob,

Wish I could convinve my g/f of that.

She's at school 83 hours a week.

Nick, do what you want to do.

Sometimes your social life will take a hit.

Been taking my girl to school, and tieing up her loose ends, while running my own business. That's been taking a serious hit on my social life. It's non-exsistent at this point, besides here and DTR.

Take Bob's advice... You are young only once. Before you know it, you will be 25 years old, and then you HAVE TO settle down into a job. Right now you can drift a little.

Just remember, schooling is never a bad thing... (just don't go extreme like my girl. . )

Let's see - I worked from 0-60 hours in any given week while I was going to college... and I never took more than 4 classes (12-credits) per semester. It takes longer to graduate that way... but I was able to buy my cake and enjoy every last piece of it through the years. :D

I didn't want work to interfere with the social life back then... and it didn't for the most part. I'd hate to see you work 40+ hours per week and miss out on the other parts of college outside of the classroom.

Nobody told me there were classes I had to go to!! Oh well still graduated. Have fun, work will come soon enough.

It's not really worth it IMHO

I used to work at company that made injectable drugs. I got tired of working 50+ hours a week and worked swing shift went to school every morning @ 7.

Meaning I got off @ 1 am drove home got home @ 2. Slept untill 6. Drove to school went to school untill 5. Worked untill 1 drove home agian.

Now I did this for about 1. 5 years. You realize you cannot do this forever on Mt. Dew or Coffie alone.

I started dreaming I was at school and would then go to work. Wakeup and go to school/work.

I realized that I couldnt do this anymore when one time driving to school I autographed a bunch of the highway reflectors w/ my truck and woke up cuz I kept hearing *SMACK* rubmble rumble *SMACK* rumble rumble *SMACK*

Do what you need to do but I wouldnt recomend it. All the $$ was nice but no time to spend it.

Take it from someone who worked 60-70 hours a week from age 15 on. Take these years to learn some valuable life experiences. Date different girls, travel as much as possible, party and enjoy life. There will be many years ahead full of work and responsability. Work less, concentrate on good grades in college, and stay away from the pills. --have fun. Let someone else sell the shoes.

I worked 20-25 hours and went to school 30 hours a week. I lived at home and drove a '67 International Travelall(in 1987). It wasn't the prettiest thing on the lot but it was paid for! Made some side money plowing snow with it in the winter.

Nick,

Been there, done that... there is no rush dude! Work, study a little and enjoy your life... All work and no play will quickly result in burnnout and will negate most of your schoolwork and I'm pretty sure that nothing good will come out of falling asleep in front of a lathe or milling machine. :{

Cheers,

Trent
