Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) What do you have to do to puff black with just a throttle blip?

Not that its really important but my buddy with a 6. 0 (15k, void warrenty, and blown head gaskets) can blip his throttle and get a nice cloud. My assumption is that even with a Comp you still need some boost before extra fueling. Does it just take bigger injectors than my 275's? Thanks guys.

I can do it readily. I have Mach 4s and a Catcher. I can do it with the comp off or on. I also have a B1. The slower spool on that probably helps.

I have read on here to disconnect the MAP and then you should be able have soot showers at idle. Most posts have had the Edge Comp on to make this happen.

My problem

I have too much smoke and HEAT! It's fun at first but when you have to tow a big trailer and the EGT's kill your performance, it stinks. I'm looking for changes. Maybe 275 injectors instead of the EDMs?

How do you like the B1? I'm going to be looking at getting one soon

I love it. It doesn't spool as fast as some would like, but it's very manageable. Spools quick enough for me, and my EGTs stay pretty low. I was climbing a sand dune at full throttle and 40 lbs of boost and had 1400 on the pyro. I've never seen it that high on the street. Another plus, is that I haven't broken it yet. :D

I can blip a little puff with JUST my injectors-- no box.

With the Catcher on, it went from a tiny puff to quite a cloud. But it wasn't that bad, because the engine revs so fast with the Catcher that it cleans up quickly when in neutral.

I can blip the throttle and get a small puff and only at low boost with my current setup, nothing real big Im able to contribute to the smoke stories thread.

Don't you just love getting in front of the guy who just cut you off and letting him have a little smoke treatment? It's great when his white headlights fade to a dim orange glow in the rear view mirror. :-laf

I can leave a nice cloud in gear taking off or on the go, but I want to do clouds with just a blip sitting at a idle, at a light, next to the kids with a tip bigger than mine, I'm the jealous type.

yep unhook your comp from your map sensor its important that it is the sensor on the block leave the factory harness pluged into the comp turn comp on any level works nice 5x5 is the best you can even get a nice puff with the box off.

Get A Catcher!

My smarty and DDII's can smoke like heck if I lay into it. On the road my stock HX spools lightning fast above 1600 with this combo. Above 2200 there is barely a quick puff and I'm at 30+ lbs of boost. Below 1600 it smokes like a freight train!

So you leave the Comp hooked to the factory MAP harness and just unplug the wiring from the stock sensor? What are the downsides to this?
