I am on the edge of my seat trying to decide whether or not the bugs are out of the 6. 7's. I was a nice guy and sold my kid an 07 5. 9 which daily gets 18 mpg. I read all the horror stories about the 07-07. 5 dpf issues and mileage problems, is it my imagination or does it seem that the 08's are showing a lot less problems? I think the majority of all complaints are an error code or two concerning the condition of the dpf. I know we can throw the entire exhaust system away and install a box or chip and find a quick solution but what is everyone's feelings about the progress by DC???

I bought My 08 in Sept and have Loved every min of it so far and it has a little over 8000 miles on it all trouble free my best MPG has been 18-5 to 19 and worst has been 13-5 in town I would say GO for it

Bought new 6. 7 Quad cab in Oct. Has 6005 miles on the "clock". Had first oil change done @ 5500 with recall reflash. Gets 14 -18 mpg depending upon driving. Preforms flawlessly. Great tow vehicle. Price of diesel too high.

2008 6.7

Just have under 3,000 miles on my 2008 6. 7. So far I love everything on it. Went back to the automatic after having two manual six speeds. I believe this will be an excellent truck for heavy towing. Will be trying it out this week with the fifth wheel.

6. 7 Liter Cummins (R) Turbo Diesel Engine, 6 -Speed Automatic 68RFE Transmission, 3. 73 Anti-Spin Differential, Brilliant White, ISSPRO Gauges, Transfer Flow Fuel Tank, PullRite #20,500 Super 5th Hitch, Line-X, XTRA Bed liner , Hayes Genesis brake controller, Custom Graphics, Pull a Mobile Suites Fifth Wheel.

Had my 08 for over a month. Only trip got right at 18 MPG going to Sac from Minden on I80. Hand calculated, overhead was 20. Was surprised at mileage. Had hi idle and DRL turned on by dealer. Very happy with auto trans. Shifts are very good and exhaust brake, cruise, and tow/haul work very well together. The ERS is very nice feature. Looks like Dodge listened to owners in alot of areas. Just installed mag-hytecs on diffs and a heliwig rear sway bar. Liked what I saw underneath. Major improvements over my 97 are everywhere, just a very good running truck

Bought my 2008 May 31, 2008. I have 12,200 miles and am happy with the power, transmission, and interior. This is my 4th Dodge RAM with Cummins.

My son has a Chevy Duramax and my truck has less body noise than his. He has 36,000 miles on the Chevy.

We get about the same MPGs and the Duramax has enough power to pull just as good as the Cummins.

OK, at what relative RPM's? :-laf

Here is the setup - Stock 2005 Duramax pulling a 32' 5th wheel RV with a motorcycle trailer attached to the RV with two Honda VTX cycles. 2004 Dodge RAM (Edge chip on 2) Lance 1030 truck camper and a 5200 lb. trailer behind that.

Probably about equal in weight. My son driving the Duramax and me driving the Dodge, and I am no slow poke.

Duramax leading and me trying to keep up. I have no idea what RPMs the Duramax was running, but I was running 2100 RPMs and there was NO lack of power exhibited by the Duramax.

We were running between 70-75 mph.

I did win the MPG race by almost 1 mpg.

Road - I-35 from Winston, MO to KC - US 71 from KC to Springdale, AR.

I am a fan of the Cummins - own my 4th - but seeing is believing.

That is the important question and the key difference. It is also one of the reasons why a Cummins is a far superior towing/hauling engine.

Any V8 diesel will downshift two or possibly three gears on an upgrade when loaded because V8 diesel engines, just like V8 gasoline engines, don't make anywhere near as much torque as an inline six cylinder (Cummins) at lower engine speeds. A V8 diesel has to be revved to make power when our Cummins engines produce between 350 and 400 ft. lbs. of torque (6. 7s Cummins engines produce 425 ft. lbs. ) at idle and full rated torque from 1500 or 1600 rpm, depending on how the engine is programmed, all the way to 2900 rpm.

3000 miles

Great towing truck!

Gobs of power and torque.

Transmission shifts great love the button on the handle!!!

The ride is a bit rough when empty.

I need to figure out the light load tire pressure monitor gizmo.

Yanked our 14,000 lb Toy hauler up Cajon pass with ease.

08 5500 with 50K miles on the clock... . We drive this truck like we stole it... runs fine... and gets almost 2 mpg better than the F550 we sold and should be less expensive to keep running... .

However we've had 3 FCM's fail... (forward control module's) all have been covered... we feel like there is ghost running around with the lights working when they want to...

Mr. Barlow, thanks! you hit the nail on the head of the point I wanted to bring forward... The cummins will practically idle with 15K attached to it...

The V8 Diesels require you to really bring up the RPM's to get and keep their load rolling... That comes with increased noise and vibration.

Cheers,

Bill

Should have knocked on wood when I wrote the above about my '08 - got a P2A01 code yesterday. O2 sensor sooted up. EGT's were 100-200 degrees lower today too!

Took truck in this morning. Service department keeping truck for a couple of days. Going to do an EGR system cleaning, a complete exhaust/turbo/DPF cleaning, new O2 sensors?, and then an exhaust wrap.

See if it lasts another 12000 miles.

have had my truck in the shop sveral times for the engine light coming on service writer tells me it has to do w/cat convertor also what i the light load switch for

-------------------------------------

08 6. 7 30000 miles 33 nitto terra grapplers

The light load switch is for the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system). If you it's off and your trying to run the low unloaded pressures, which I never do, you'll get a TPMS warning.

2008 soot /fuel issues

yea mine started "Exactly" like that, now code 2262 at 20,000 miles /turbo issue, oil level climbing on dipstick, soot, EGR,etc.

Had mine a few months, and use it only to tow tractor or boat. CEL went off this weekend, returning the dreaded P2262 code. Going in tomorrow to the dealer so they can do TSB 11-001-08. I asked if they could go straight to 11-002-08, but said they can't cause Chrysler asks if they performed the first one before they authorize spending money to replace everything in the second. Seems backwards to me, but o well.

I've wondered about this truck since day one. First, it was almost a year old when i located it. thought it was used, but only had 17 miles on it. No one could tell me why it sat on the lot for so long, but after going to a few dealers, i noticed that many of them had 07. 5's sitting around for no apparent reason, and in various models (i. e. Laramie QC, Mega, Standard, etc). Guess people didn't want the first batch of 6. 7L? I actually love the truck. Now that my other work truck is gone i will be driving this one allot more, so maybe the P2262 wont show up again.

My only question is that as the bugs are worked out on this engine as the years go by, will Dodge issue recalls / TSB's to retrofit / update earlier versions of the 6. 7L? Would sure be nice if they did.

Still, a good truck. Very quiet, rides like a cadillac, and leaves the Ford and Chevy guys scratching their heads when i blow by them!
