I use a Nuvi 350 in my '06. I use the suciton mount nect to the A-pillar and it works great. I especially like that if travels well. It's small enought you could even use it for street hiking. It does not have topo map or waypoint capability so it's not what you'd want for real hiking but for ease of transport and great performance in vehicles I highly recommend it.

I've been seriously looking the past few weeks. I like the Nuvi's. My needs require water proof (resistant). Garmin has a $100 rebate currently on some models. Right now I'm thinking about the Zumo 550. The Zumo appears to have more Points of Interest and comes bundled with the Garmin Unlocked DVD and car mount.

Here's a website I found elsewhere. Seems to be great prices.

I have one.

It`s not the type you install.

It has a bean bag bottom that sets on the dash. I move it from truck to motorcycle. It`s the 2610 model. I recommend Garmin and only Garmin units

If you have a laptop Streets & Trips has a great map and GPS program. I have been using it the last 5 years and love it. Every year they come out with new software to update the any new roads or new features... . You can upload addresses from Outlook express or excell. Cost for the Streets and trips w/ GPS is $109 at Sams Club and $24 for just the software to update as often as you like. My father in law bought a new garmin and it can't do the things that Streets and trips can.

I have a Garmin 340 and I love it. Have the suction mount for the windshield so I can take it from vehicle to vehicle. Also, I like the idea of removing it to prevent the possibility of a smash and grab by some thief. It works flawlessly. Been using the Garmin stuff in aircraft and in my truck for quite a while. Definitely recommend.

Diesel Thunder.

Like DrDiesel, I also have a beanbag mount StreetPilot 2610. If you place it as far forward as possible between the two driver's side dashtop vents it doesn't block your view at all.

This particular model (unlike newer StreetPilots) does not have an internal hard drive, so there are no moving parts to break, and no problems with operating it in cold weather. It uses up to a 2GB compact flash memory card that is large enough to hold all of the US and Canada maps.

On Edit: Note that this model does not have internal batteries, so you can't take it out hiking in the woods with you. You could use it on a boat if it has a 12-volt power port (cigarette lighter). If you need a GPS for use out in the woods make sure that it has internal battery power.

378

The GPS you purchased is a great unit and should have a $100. 00 rebate. Check the garmin site. Most users of that unit choose to use either the Beanbag (my choice) or the sticky pad.

For power you can direct wire it or use the speaker power adapter. I would recommend this one, as you may discover that you will pull abart the adapter plug after continually removing it. That was you can unplug it from the power port and hide it when not in use. I also recommend getting the 13. 00 cover to protect it.

I just sold my 276C and willbe purchasing the 378 when they update the software in 2007.

I use the Tom Tom One, it's my CTD and all of my company trucks. It's cheap at $400, possibly less now got all of mine at Best Buy. It's touch screen, small and compact, mount it anywhere in the truck. I have mine suction cupped to the front windscreen using the kit that comes with it. It can run about 4-5 hours on it's own power, meaning you don't have any bulky wiring showing if you don't want to leave it plugged in. I can find an address in about 5 seconds driving (Not recommending driving and operating it) My guys find it easy to use and stupid proof per se. I would buy 20 more, also I take mine everywhere as it does not have to stay in the truck.

I run the Garmin 7200 with XM Radio and Traffic, it has a 7" screen so it is very easy to see while moving and it tells you what to do anyways, it is dash mounted and seems to be a very good unit
