I know, what a stupid question!:(

I've driven manuals for 20 years, and I guess I've never exerienced a slipping clutch before.

What are the symptoms? I've recently bought a 6000# travel trailer and I'm thinking of adding an EZ, and want to be prepared.

Thanks

Tboneman,

All revvvvvved up and no place to go! You're seat of the pants dyno senses the rpm's don't match the push on your tush,... ... ... so to speak..... since you've been driving a stick for years (my truck is auto, but like you mucho years with stick) that's how I describe it to make sense to you. If it's slipping moderatley bad, you'll smell it. If it's toast you can just sit there and NO GO.

And this can happen while driving down the road, i. e. , when the torque exceeds the cluche's ability to hold (not just starting from a stopped position)?

Example: I could be trucking up a hill, and the RPMs would increase with no increase in go-pedal and I'd begin to slow down (decreased power to the wheels).

Since you've been driving a stick for many years, I'd say it feels alot like your spinning your tires... . without the vibrations or hop.

Spinning on ice is a great example!

Ahh, ICE. Gotcha.

Come on... of the following manual transmission vehicles I've driven which do you think had enough power to slip a clutch?

Jeep CJ5 (in line 6 version)

AMC Gremlin

Ford Maverick

Plymoth Sundance (each hade 130k+ before getting rid of them)

Dodge Ram 1500 ('94 318 gasser)

Dodge Ram 2500 CTD (the BRT per signiture)

I would tend to say all of them... the hardest part is getting enough traction so that the clutch slips before the tires do. To get the power, each would have to be wound up... . except the CTD that is... .

I've slipped the clutch in a 4cyl jeep cherokee. Big hill, lots of wheel contact... to high a gear, and too much rpm... . I was trying to avoind shifting into low... .
