What does it cost to chg fuel filter???

I am due for a fuel filter change. Can anyone tell me what their dealer charges to change the fuel filter? Are there other places to go to get the fuel filter changed? And if I wanted to change it myself, where is a good place to buy the filter & at what cost?

If I supply them the filter, my dealer was doing it for about $30. Now I do it myself. I bought a case of Fleetguard Stratopore filters from the local Cummins service center, but they're available from Geno's too.

Don't let the dealer do it. They charge 80 bucks for a $10 filter and 5 minutes of labor! You can get the filters from Genos or one of the other sponsors, and there have been instructions posted here on how to change them... just do a search for it. It's dirt simple to do... save the money!!

I recommend that you pull out the 1 1/8 socket (6 point) and a piece of 3/4" garden hose about 3 feet long (to extend your fuel drain from the water dump). With the truck off slide the garden hose over the drain hose from the water drain (to get it out from under you truck and off your differential) and drain the filter. Next using a 12" long extension remove the filter cap and filter. Change filter and replace make sure that this is tightened to spces (I do not have them with me).



The 3 gen filter will purge itself by rotating the key to run without starting, you will hear the fuel pump run for about 25 seconds. Turn off and then start your truck. If it does not start do this proceedure again. This process is in your owners manual.
