Hello,

I recently had some work done at a diesel shop and I mentioned I would be using the MAD CaTCHer and such. We discussed using a restrictor fitting on my turbo/wastegate... He told me it was quicker, easier, and free to ''Talladega tune" it myself and just bend the brass fitting or something. I'm not sure, but my CaTCher is going to be here in the morning and I would like a solution so that I can have higher boost.

(I had never heard the term ''talladega tune'' before, forgive me if it's common knowledge)

I think the term "talladega tune" is just a racers wording for "jerry rig", an emergency fix. To jerry rig something at the track or on the road is fine, however when you are in the shop or at home, do it right the first time.

Guys,"restrictor plate racing". Sound familiar? Talladega Super Speedway is a restrictor plate track. If you were asking him to install a restriction, this is where the term came from,Talladega tuning means something is going to get a restriction installed, whether it be a boost elbow or an intake manifold plate.

We have about the same trucks, as long as you don't have injectors or a bigger fueling box, you can pipe plug the wastegate port out of the compressor with a 1/8" NPT pipe plug. Boost will max out at 31-32 with the Catcher on your truck and for now a plug is fine. Boost elbow is simple and will be nessesary with more mods.

Some type of WG mod will be helpful. The Catcher with my stock WG would hit 1150 EGT. Now slightly over 900 at 32 PSI.

okay everyone thanks, J Ragland that sounds like a plan to me. Can I just go to Oriellys and say "hey give me a 1/8'' NPT pipe plug?"

Home Depot for about 75 cents. Use a pipe thread sealant like Permatex instead of Teflon tape. I didn't use anything though, just screwed it in. At 32 PSI with only a Catcher, I don't think I have any leaks!
