i have searched and came back with so many returns i could not

go through them all and the ones i did read had some but not all

of the answers i was looking for!

and when i posted in the past maybe what i think i am asking

is not what you read (i am not a great communactor or so i have

been told)

93 (ex getrag) 5 speed 4x4 if i do not use a kit from anyone what do

i need to have to do a getrag to nv4500 conversion?

lets say i have

nv4500 4x4 trans

the bellhousing

the clutch slave/master cylnders

the shifter

what do i need from this point

the adapter from the engine to the transmission

the starter motor

what else?

how do i deal with the transfer case linkage?

it is my understanding the nv4500 will bolt directly

up to my 205 case correct or would i be better off

looking for a differnt case?

i just need to make sure i am ready to roll soon

but could realy use yer help

i would also like to upgrade to a roller bearing

pilot but need the bearing number and instructions

on how deep to cut the flywheel

Yes, your 205 t-case will bolt up to the nv500. Advanced Adapters has a $40 or so kit that allows you to bolt your linkage to the 4500, it comes with a new rod, the bracket that bolts to the 4500, and all the hardware. go to advancedadapters.com, for more info you can use quad4x4.com they have info to.

RB, this is top secret info. Info you probly won't get. Folks that bought the high $$ kit aren't gonna tell ya what it consisted of or tips/secrets, cause they spent the $$. The vendors wouldn't give out that info cause then they'd be out the money. I suggest getting this far:

nv4500 4x4 trans

the bellhousing

the clutch slave/master cylnders

the shifter.

Of which I imagine you'll need at least that much. Then try figuring the rest out on your own. It can't be that different. I mean for $3700, wow thats alot of money, when you could obtain the above parts much cheaper. Are all the additional parts worth the extra? This is paying for R&D, nothing new. You try the DTR? Might have some good ole boys over there that did the swap on their own.

Edit: I see you just did LOL. I am in the same boat as well. I'd like to know and have a nv4500.

i would love to see the tape quad 4x4 puts out on the conversion

with the kit. just to know i just cant fathom no one has it!

I know what you mean. A couple years ago I posted the same question and asked to buy or borrow the tape off someone that bought the kit from Quad4x4. It's probly one of those high tech tapes that eats itself or something right after watching it once LOL.

well i guess i am just going to try and do it

i hate to make a mistake and waste a bunch

of money but if no one knows ... ... ... ...

I'm not trying to hide anything. I bought and Advance Adapters kit on ebay and I got my transmission there as well. The AA kit comes with a bellhousing so you can keep everything else just like it is. The only other things in the AA kit are a bracket for the t-case shifter, and a spacer for the transmission mount. The mount is almost in the same place, but is recessed more on the NV4500. I can post some pictures if you like.

Although the AA kit is a little expensive(I got mine for $100) It prevents you from having to replace the hydraulic system, flywheel housing, bellhousing, and starter.

bj

yes pictures please,

the deal is the transmission i found has

everything with it and i would just as soon

use it if i cant use it without a kit the

deal is not so good

Bill, That's all you need on a 4x4. I believe the 2wd trucks need a new yoke and the driveshaft has to be shortened. You keep the rest of your stock stuff in place. The AA kit really is a good deal if you compare prices on what you have to buy otherwise.

Ya'll PM me email addresses and I will send you the instructions I have for the kit. they have pretty good pictures.

RB, I think the only thing you need besides what you already have listed is the flywheel housing (adapter from engine to transmission) and the clutch fork. I am not sure how easy it is going to be to use the hydraulics from a 2nd gen truck in a first gen though. It may bolt right up.

The hole in the floor for the shifter has to be relocated about 4" rearward, and when using the AA kit, the input retainer has to be shortened by . 4180". Shortening the input retainer won't be necessary if you use all of the factory parts though. Your flywheel will work, but you will need to make sure the input shaft doesn't bottom out in the clutch hub before it tightens up against the bellhousing.

NV4500 install guide

I just found that AA has an NV4500 installation guide found at:

http://eshop.advanceadapters.com/commerce/catalog/product.jsp?product_id=2610

They are selling this guide for $10.

I have been following this thread as I am interested in the conversion also. However, I do not yet have a tranney in my garage. I am hoping to find the parts this winter and make the conversion next spring when the weather is more condusive to working without the roar of the garage heater.

I was telling RBergman (via PM) that my brother did the conversion on his 92' including going to the 13 1/4" clutch upgrade...

He says it is the best thing he's ever done. It handles his HP well, it won't hop and jump either in forward or in reverse. . even with a full load... he luv's it. .

pb...

This is a very informational post for me, since I have a 93 W250 with an auto transmission that I want to swap for a manual transmission and a 29 spline NP205 in the near future.

I will be looking foward to Pastor Bob's post.

Happy Thanksgiving and may God bless our troops!
