Your low end response should be better, especially if you also turn the star wheel about 20 clicks toward the engine.

I just found my instructions for the torque plate. This is the official reason the slide your AFC housing all the way forward:

" Moving the AFC housing all the way forward minimizes fuel holdback from the AFC link at low boost, and also allows the governor rocker greater rack travel and more fuel delivery"

Like the guys above said, more HP & torque. :)

aight, here is the rest of the story...

the AFC has a line from the namafold going into it. It has a diaphram and a spring that moves depending on how much boost there is. It moves a arm that sticked down in the pump next to the plate. When you floor it the rack hits either the plate or the AFC arm. By moving the AFC, you move where the arm starts at, and increases max fuel from the new location, and increases with boost at the same rate as it did stock. By adjusting the star wheel, it changes the rate of the arm moving from the boost presure. You can also change the spring out to change the rate the arm moves.

You get more power/smoke by anything that makes the arm move farther, or more than stock.

The holes that the breakoff bolt, slotted bolt, and two hex bolts go through are elongated, making it possible to slide fore and aft. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is how it works.

Yea, the holes on the AFC are slotted. If you are board, im sure a dremil can help some. A dremil is also a fun thing on the stock plate. Not that i have ever done that.

ok guys I am finally in... ... ... ...

soon I will beat that Danelle's bombed 24v ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . and oh ya 12 valves are Better

he he he I finally got me a red ram

how about some pics...

I would love to try this on my girlfriends, dads 12v, but have little knowledge of these undervalved:p engines. Does anybody have any pics, or drawings they could point me to, or e-mail me with?

Thanks,

AJB

TDK. . check out the TST page. . I think they have all the instructions and pics online... just print them out... Its a piece of cake...

Sliding the AFC housing also Strongly affects fuel economy, especially with Manual transmissions.

Midway seems to be the best of both worlds.

Ted made a good point, and I was going to post on it earlier. If the truck is stock, your probably better off just turning the star wheel towards the engine to gain a bit more bottom end. If the AFC is slid too far forward, you get too much smoke, and have to adjust the star wheel way too much. I could see how this would affect fuel economy too.

I went through it all on my truck, when sliding the plate forward, and have ended up going back to the original AFC housing location, and turned the star wheel approx 30 clicks towards the engine. Same response, same bottom end, just a lot less smoke.

Thanks guys for all your input. I went ahead and slid it forward all the way. It did give me more power but, like what was brought up the milage started to suffer. Guess I'll slid it back a bit to see if I can get my milage back.
