If you have a 4x4 and it was a front wheel bearing go here and scroll down to see one - It's about the 7th item down on the page...

I just had my front wheel hub replaced and it was $360 for the hub,$54 for the brakes, and $175 labor. That was at my local dodge dealer here in town. That was a very good price I felt cause I was quoted a lot higher from other shops. They got it in and out the same afternoon. Even washed it and cleaned it out. I was very happy with them. When my bearings went out it was all of a sudden!! I was out checking fields and on my way home , which was only 7 miles, i heard a scaping noise off and on. I figured it was a corn stalk caught underneath. I got up by a little shopping center where everyone comin out of there pull out in front of ya and you have to hit the brakes. Well i hit my brake but not hard i slowed to 20 mph from 45 and i went about 100 feet and the truck made a jerk and about a split second later my steering wheel spun to the left out of my hand and the truck turned into the on-coming lane!! Lucky no one was coming or it would have been a head on!! I put it in 4x4 and drove it about another 200 feet to get it off the road and then they towed to the shop the next day. I couldnt believe it would lovk up that way and throw heavy truck like that into the other lane!!

For starters, look at the 12 point bolts on the backside of the knuckle. see if they look like they have even been removed at all. If there is still mud there or whatever, its obvious if they didnt remove it.

you might also be able to see the new part if you pull the wheel off. You can also check if the bearing is tight by jacking it up, if its loose at all, thats not good.

Just looking at it would be the easiest way.

On a 99 the hub must be removed to get the rotor off because the rotor is on the back side of the hub flange. The easiest way to tell if the hub was replaced is to just pull off the center cap of the wheel. The hub is visible once the cap is removed. Basically everything you see in the center, except for the big nut in the middle, is the hub bearing assembly. If it looks shiny then you got a new one, if it is rusty then you got...

Don't feel bad if you paid $600 for a hub + R&R labor. They can be a royal PITA to remove. I beat on my hub for the better part of a day to get it off and afterwards would have gladly paid for someone else to deal with it!

If you want your bearings to last a long time see what I did at the bottom of this page. I have no more worries knowing they are full of grease and I can add more whenever I want.
