What else do ya'll tinker with?

Gotta Vent

Ok - 60 - 4.1 seconds - with an electric car!!

It seems to me that most of the people on this board enjoy "tinkering" and/or hot-rodding with their trucks. This begs the question, what else have ya'll "Tim Taylored" around the house. (Me. . I enjoy overclocking all sorts of computer components. . cpus, video cards, etc... . I love buying a mother board and chip for less than 200 bucks and having it run at around 600mhz!!!----Just don't tell Intel!!!!)

Check it out...

This setup is similiar to my liquid cooled computer (No, I'm NOT kidding!)

I'll list a few of mine. I used to roadrace motorcycles and did all of my own wrenching on my race bikes as I figured I was the one who would be sliding down the asphalt at 100+ mph not my mechanic! (I quit that after a bad accident where I broke my back and did some brain and nerve damage. I'm all healed now) I'm a pilot (Private, Instrument rated). I have been going to the Silver Lake sand dunes for about 7 years regularly to beat on my trucks! I built my own rocket (4" diameter, 7 ft tall) that boosted to 620 mph and went to 8700 ft (complete with electronics for parachute deployment and data recording). I am also a computer consultant who used to design IC's and circuit boards in the late 80's to early 90's and at one point I was working on supercooling 486/50 Mhz chips (50 Mhz CPU and Bus) and pushing them to 100 Mhz (This was around 1990). I realize this sounds very slow today but was absoutely screaming back then (the bus speed we were trying was faster than what we run today - and was our downfall). That just a few of em!

Tinker?? Besides the Dodge and the Website -- I pretty much love anything with wheels. I sold all of my projects before I moved, but in the coming year I plan to motorize one of my old pedal cars for the kids to ride, like to find a 67' chevy shortbed truck to rod and looking for a car for my soon-to-be 16 year old daughter -- and since I like the older stuff, I'm hoping to find a Dart or Scamp to let her drive and teach her and the boys how to work on.

I have what I would consider a pretty serious vintage Mustang hobby. I'm 26,and have owned several cars since I was 15, currently owning a '94 LX convertible/auto and a '67 fastback 390 GT 4spd. I aim for "concours",or "show room" level in
the work I do,but I also like to do some subtle and hard to notice upgrades as I go.
Right now my hobby is on hold since I moved from CA to WA and am living in an apartment.
Hopefully next years plans include getting into a house so I can trailer the fastback
up here and dive into its restoration.

I'm also a musician, bass player to be exact.
I was pretty much a "hired gun" doing both studio and live work with rock and country bands, and yes, even my bass guitars have been
"Tim Taylor'd" to get the most possible tone out of them. It's a disease I tell ya!

Hmmm let's see here...

Well, one time I hooked up 240 Volts to a junked computer to make it blow up. It worked.

Seriously, I lover carpentry, and am always tinkering in my shop. I have built all kinds of things, tables, etc... Going tobuild real furniture eventually...

Well... .

Naturally the Dodge is my top priority project now. #ad
Working on ideas for minor mods while waiting to finish break-in. Then it's Power Time!

Sitting on what's now the back burner is the Honda ATV. Plans in the works for lifts, bigger tires, radios, & who knows what all.

1998's project was turning the Suburban into a swamp buggy. For you out of towners thats an off-roader for the bad wet places. It's got 44" swampers riding under a custom flat deck body. It looks good in the woods, but for some reason I get stares when I drive it uptown.

Another project for the future is to build a large gooseneck trailer to haul the Suburban and Honda on.

I'm thinking about taking on a job next week to build a custom 14' truck bed in my home garage (this one's for someone else).

Fact is I've got more projects than funding. Keeps me out of the bars, though. #ad

My son and I love to tinker with and race dirt motorcycles... from enduros, hair scrambles to motorcross, we both have a blast with it! Not too many common bonds between a 43 and a 13 year old, but these dirt bikes are far more worth their weights in gold!
And the Dodge truck? Nothing more than transportation to and from the tracks and toting the boat to the river (We both love to fish also).

Ive got 55 Chev BelAir Hardtop that Im just about done restoring. It was a hotrod when I bought it in 77. I built and raced a 69 Dodge Dart in NHRA SuperStreet, got to spendy and sold it. Know ,with the kids all over 18,its my RAM,travel trailer and cant forget the wife. ( been married 26+ years)

Like First Gen. MY son and I both own Dodge Turbos and Drag Race on a weekly basis. We started out by restoring a 67 Dodge R/T and a 67 Dodge Charger. We started when he was 12 and he's 26 now so those Mopars have been in the family a long time. We did the show stuff for years then got bored and started to race. People are surprised to see such clean cars being raced but what the heck, we built them once we can fix anything on them almost overnight. Kind of keeps us both out of the bars and our wives always know where we are every Saturday night. I've owned Dodge trucks before but my turbo is just the ticket for pulling our race trailers. Those gas trucks were nothing compared to a Cummins. By the way First Gen my son just picked up a new ride in Chicago over the holidays. It's a 70 Dart, full tube chassie w/ all the bells amd whistles. Has a 340 with roller cam and all that stuf. We're taking it to a small local track that stays open all year(weather permitting) for its first race tomorrow. We're really pumped to see what it does. Well I'll let someone else in I'm getting kind of long winded. It is interesting to see what everyone else is into.

Seems like my hobbies come and go. But some I just can't seem to shake. I've spent the last 14 months doing a body-off restoration on a '68 Jeep CJ-5, all stock, then found myself hauling it to races anyway. After my factory Buick V-6 spanked a couple of 304 and 327's, in the sand drags, how could I stop. Restoring antique John Deere tractors has been a fun thing for me for about fifteen years now. The last year and a half has been pretty much dedicated to building our first new home. Landscaping is also a constant prodject for me. Just got to keep moving dirt. Any free time not taken by the previous activities is spent camping and in the outdoors. My latest brainstorm is setting up an unlimited hot water shower for my 5th wheel using my Ram for the heat source and pump, and a nearby creek or lake for the water source. No more military showers in the woods!
And of course, I have to constantly be playing with my Pickup.

I have another :"Ram" I play with. Its a 1950 Dodge (actually a '49 held over and sold as a "50. I have restored it three times--once after each kid. Also have a '76 John Deer back hoe that is mostly toy. While its not modified, it is clean and neat. In just spare time its woodworking--presently doing a large computer desk/office area for Daughter in law. / Of course they all cease when Elk season rolls around.

My tinkerings, hobbies and interests seem to take different directions on a yearly basis.

In my back yard can be found a '50 Chevy, '62 Olds F85, and '68 Mercury Cougar (as you can see, I don't consider myself a "Mopar" man!!) The Olds & Chevy are unrestored but will run when coaxed. The Cougar is also unrestored, but is in much better shape, and is a geat cruisin' car.

As I have time, I follow what's happening in the railroad industry, particularly from a historical perspective (ie, big & fast steam locomotives!!). Since I'll get carried away here, I should start a new thread on this topic!! Scale-model live steam railroads are another hobby I'd dive into headlong if I had the time and money to invest.

When it comes to winter fun, this non-athletic/late bloomer took up snowboarding at age 30, but I love it! I don't try to keep up with my wild (much younger)brothers, but blasting the slopes and runnin' thru the trees is a new world for me. Can't believe I missed out this long. So far, in my 3rd season, I haven't busted anything #ad
or pulled a Sonny Bono #ad

Computers, photography, raising kids and taking care of my beast occupy the rest of my "free time" #ad

Well I'm no mechanic. But I do all the main't on my ram. I have a 72 GMC Jimmy 4x4 350 4 brl I like to tinker with. Its not rusty and has been pretty trusty. I for the main part am a builder. I have a Millermatice 250 wire feed welder. Smith cutting torch. drill press and some nice air powered tools and basic wrenches. Ive built one trailer. Rebuilt a four place snowmobile trailer with some assistance from Pa. I have done wood work for a while but don't have enough room for more equipment. I have always liked to fix or modify to make it work better. Its fun.

As my member name implies, I enjoy building and shooting custom rifles. I am discovering that it is much more affordable to BOMB a custom rifle than a Ram.

I don't really timker right now(work to many hours) but i have a '69 Buick Skylark in my backyard that i would like to make cruiser out of. Car has beatiful interior no tears, holes or cracks anywhere. Body has alot of surface rust but no penetration yet. But my main hobby besides rammin is shooting my deer rifle and getting better everyday. I have a savage 7mm rem. mag. right now with a simmons 3x9 scope. I want to get a remington . 300 ultra-mag(tm) with a leupold scope, but that is after my bombing run.

I tinker with anything to do with hunting, fishing or anything else outdoors. Mountain bikes, camping gear, bows, guns, fishing lures, rods and reels and soon a boat or 4 wheeler or a new RAM or house or ... ... . my girlfriend. I'll tinker with about anything once or twice.

If I said, I would be exiled too the blue oval ring on planet 6. 0 in star system gm 6. 5

no thanks I like it here on planets I-6 12v & 24v in the DC 5. 9 star system

Well I'am in a switch over phase I suppose. For years I lived to hunt and shoot (skeet and sporting clays) and tinker with guns and reloading. I still do a bit of deer and pheasant hunting.

I took up sea kayaking with camping. Like to ride my moutain bike and do a bit of hiking. I'am a ski instructor all winter for a fun job. In fact thats all I do for any spare time I have all winter is ski.

I still love to tinker in my shop, especially woodworking. Used to carve decoys at one time. Just do decorative stuff for gifts etc now.

Then there's the Dodge. I have always enjoyed a nice truck and the tinkering involved in maitaining it. This is my first diesel.

Pete
