Ok im in the buying market and i cant decide between the 12v and 24v

I like them both very much and am very knowledgable about them both, however

the things that will remain the same is that either truck will be manual with 4wd

now with that said

is it possible for either or both trucks to get decent 1/4 mile times say like (13s-14s) range with just bolt on?

can it even be done without twins or internal engine work?

If it helps, if I did get a 24v it would be ext cab and shortbed

if I could find that in a 12v then definitely but if not I havent decided the body yet

I read so many threads but havent seen many on what times people are pulling with what power etc

Also both manuals would be the 5 speed (no 6 I heard they are hard to shift fast)

thanks alot guys

man, without a doubt, the 12v... especially if you're set on a 5sp. a couple pump tweaks and some decent injectors, and that pump will support over 700hp... so basicly you're just buying injectors and a $100 set of governor springs... a set of $400 370 injectors will support over 600hp easy.

so ~$500 in fueling mods vs. ???? how much does a drag comp cost? FASS setup? injectors?

you get my point...

98 QC/SB 12v trucks are harder to find, but they're FAR from impossible to find...

if you can live w/ a long bed, a 96 or 97 will give you the big injection pump w/ an easier to find truck... the 97-98 gives you the hydraboost brakes

thank you very much, yeah I was sort of figuring that as well

the only reason I wasnt sure was i have a friend with a 2000 auto long bed 4wd, hes got an exhaust supermental injectors and an vanaken box and one other box and his truck has gone 13. 5s @98mph

Im just looking for a faster daily driver to deal with most rice, get my nice mileage, be reliable and of course sound like diesel :)

I have to assume those brakes are better on 97-98?

Im sort of leaning towards the ext cab as my friends and I go out alot together and someone usually drives everyone

The other thing too is the KDP found on the 96 trucks as well or only 97+?

KDP is an issue on all 12v trucks... not as common on the 1st gens, most common on the 94-98 trucks w/ the big p7100 pump hangin' on that timing case.

it's also an issue on early 24v trucks

your buddy's truck is an automatic... WAY quicker than a 5sp...

and that's why my new truck is an auto...

that's one bummer about the 12v autos... you get a smaller injection pump. but the 180 pump is capable of over 500hp without too much trouble.

and realisticly, an automatic truck will get down the 1/4 mile as quick as a 5sp truck making 100 MORE hp...
