Personality conflict mostly, refusal to abide by board guidelines, He's over on another board under a different name - "infidel" I believe.

His technical knowledge is missed - other issues, perhaps not by some... .

Bill Fleming, (Illflem) helped thousands of guys on this site. His departure was a big loss for us. He always had the answer for most of my questions. Personally I feel the TDR management made a big mistake in allowing him to go.

As I understand it, it wasn't a case of "allowing" - we're all big kids, and responsible for our own acts and decisions - Bill made his...

Don't want to reopen a can of worms - but it's important that everyone on a board such as this abide by rules and guidelines - no "sacred cows" or elite who get special treatment while other lesser peasants get banned for theirs...

It takes integrity and guts to remain impartial in the face of controversy - I applaud the operators of this board for that integrity...

I happened to be following the thread in real time as it happened that caused all this concern. I read it as it happened and subsequently saw that comments were removed. The missing information and deleted responses left a lot of members wondering what had happened. The way I perceived it was that illflem got too close to convictions that were dear to him when another stated (right or wrong) a “hot button” reply. As a moderator of the "Other" forum he let his emotions get in the way of (my view) free speech. As it appeared to me, it got too close to one who has to be impartial to be able to moderate. As much as folks hated to see him go, I think the guide lines had to prevail for the emotional response of using inappropriate language. There may be more to it behind the scenes than what I know as there seemed to be a lot of PMs going on as well as responses by TDR Admin stating their position, but the language used no matter how much one was provoked was inappropriate. I am not defending anyone in this matter- just calling it the way I saw it and I am sure there is a lot more that we do not know about.

It is unfortunate to see one with much knowledge leave us.

Here is what I posted on this back when it occurred (December, 2003):

Let me reiterate what I have already stated:

The actions that Bill took were not in the political thread that everyone is talking about in here. His actions warranted us removing him from the site. We have stated more in this case than we usually do when we have to remove someone from the site (which has happened ~12 times in the history of the site) which we did because Bill was a part of the management of the site. Out of respect for the parties involved since they cannot defend themselves we usually limit comment. As we have stated several times, out of respect for Bill's contributions we will not go into further discussion or detail. Nothing that is said here is going to change the facts and noone here knows all of the facts except for us and Bill. I am now closing both of these threads as further discussion will provide no benefit to anyone.
