Stock ones

I have the mopar ones available at the dealer.

they have 3-m tape for the face and then they screw on from underneath.

I like them

Although I haven't bought any yet, I looked at about every one that was out there.

If you want a thinner, more stylish flare IMO, the Mopar, Bushwacker OEM, and Xenon are all ver similar. I would recommend the Xenon flares becasue they are urathane and won't crack as easily. FWIW - I think the Mopar flares are urathane also, but the stealer won't give me a break on anything so they are considerabley more money.

For a little more protection, the Bushwacker Extenda-Fender (I think that is what they call them) will protect the paint a little better for you. I personally don't like the look of these. I supposed if I had, or was planing on much wider tires, I would consider these flares.

Warn also make a very nice and protective flare, IMO. The front 3/4's is similar to the thinner more stylish flares (Mopar), bet the back 1/4 is wider and will protect the paint much better than the thin flares.

I plan on purchasing the Xenon flares at some point. If I went with a much wider tire, or spent alot of time on dirt roads or in the mud, I opt for the Warn flares.

"illflem" has the warn flares, I'm sure he will comment here.

I have unpainted Warn 4X flares, don't know why, but they work and look good. Warn even replaced one for free when a large rock cracked it. #ad

Flares

Cooker, your right they are called Exstenda fender flares. I choose them because I do have wider tires (36x14. 50's). fastened with aluminum pop rivets from underneath the wheel well. have had them almost five years now and they still look like new. mine are unpainted.

Wow! Those are really nice and look good in black too. Are they paintable? Does the black stay nice or does it fade in the sun?

How hard were they to install? Did you have to modify the trim any? How much and where to get?

Thanks,

Blake

Flares

Blake,

Yes they are paintable, but I liked them black they kinda have a slight shine to them and they will not fade the directions called for cleaning them soap and water only and that is what I do.

Yes I had to cut the body side moulding back about 1" in in the front only, this would depend on the model year and the type of moulding you have I guess.

I think it took me about 2 hours to install all 4 of them, and I believe I paid about $275. 00 (it was almost five years ago) and I ordered them from Western Auto in NC.

Here is a link to there site: http://www.bushwacker.com/

Blake you can get the bushwacker flairs from most auto parts stores and all the 4x4 performance shops ... . I got the ones I put on my 94 toyota from Central 4WD think I payed 105. 00 per set they are sold in pairs fronts or rears

still dont know if I want them for the Ram ? I saw a electric blue Ram today on the way home with fender flairs but could not tell what brand they were they looked good..... Hum actually they look just like BIGBADDODGE'S!!!!! had to go back and look at the pic's again !!!! THATS WHAT IM GETTING BUSHWACKER EXSTENDA FLAIRS !!! :D  all I have to do now is deside if I want them painted to match?

THANKS BigBadDodge your pic's help me figure it out!!:D

Thanks guys!

I'm gonna check these out. I'll see if I can find a pair locally to look at, even if they're not for a Ram.

I saw a nice set of Xenon (sp?) flares at the 4 Wheel Jamboree in Vermont this summer, but I think they were something like $600 or more. Your Bushwackers look just as good from here.

Take care,

Blake

Don't forget paint

I have mopar flares and am happy with them (although not with the crappy install the dealer did). If you are considering painting your flares, don't forget to factor that into the overall cost. I think you can get the Mopar flares already paint matched (at least my black ones were) and that makes them comparatively less expensive. I'm running 12. 5" wide tires on an 8" rim, so the smaller flares are fine. If you want to run tires much wider, however, you'll probably want bigger flares.

Xenon vs. Bushwacker

Does anyone have a picture of their truck (or a link to someone's truck) with Xenon flares? I'm trying to decide between Xenons and Bushwacker Extend-A-Fenders.

Thanks.

Blake

Blakers,

From what I have seen the Xenon, Bushwacker OE style, and Doge OEM flares all look identical.

The Bushwacker extenda-a-enders do look nice, IMO, but only with a wider tire under them.

A comprimise might be the Warn flares. They appear to be similar to the OEM style flares for about the front 3/4 and the rear 1/4 of the flare seems to widen out more than the OEM and protect better. Illflem may be able to comment more on this as he has Warn flares on his truck.

Thanks Ryan,

I really like the Xenons, but no sure I like how they curve in at the bottom, whereas the Bushwacker Extend-A-Fenders go more straight down for more protection. But I don't like how the Bushwackers attach and have a rubber strip between the fender and the flare, which leads to wear of the paint.

My 33-12. 50x16. 5 tires stick out about 1. 5 inches on the 9. 75 inch rims, so I need some kind of flares.

I guess I'm going to try to find some around here to look at.

Blake

When I pulled mine off for the new paint job there wasn't any wear against the paint and they have been for four years.

Scott,

Blakers,

The Warn flares may be what you are looking for. It might help to see a set in person that are mounted on a truck.

What holds the top of the flare to the fender? Is it just pressure from the rivets underneith?

I must say, your's really look great!

Now torque converter slipping problems may delay my flare purchase:{ We'll see

BlakeOo.

You got it, just the pressure from the rivets is what holds it against the side.

I agree, sounds like your tourqe converter is your new higher priorty.
