Ok I changed the gear oil in the front and rear ends on my truck last month. This was the first time I changed it so it was the factory fluid in it. I replaced it with synthetic 75-90 gear oil. Ever since the change I am getting a pretty good shudder from launch when going left or right. The dealer says this is because DC part # 5102232aa should be in there. Is this the correct part #? Is this an updated part # than what it originaly came with? I read on here that no ls additive is needed. The truck never did this until I changed the fluid. What is the correct mopar part# or other fluid that is supposed to be in here?I have 3. 73 with ls. Also is there any aftermarket fluid for the transmission that will work in place of mopars atf +4?

The synthetic 75-90 is fine and I don't think you need any additive. Amsoil makes

transmission fluid meeting the atf+4 spec.

I use Royal Purple in the rear end and it works fine, in the auto transmission I use Red Line C+ it is Red Lines ATF+ 4 auto transmission fluid.

I use amsoil severe gear 75w90 in my rear end as well as my buddy who drives an 06. what brand of synthetic did you put in and did you add an additive? did you put in an apropriate gear lube in your diff? with most of our truck when we switch to amsoil we didn't have to add anything because it already has the limited slip additive in it but some times you may need to add some more I can get you some of amsoils slip lock and what you would want to do is add a little of it and go out and drive a couple of figure 8 if it still chatters then add a little more until the chatter goes away. contact me if you are interested. I would suggest trying that before you go and waste more mony on oil for the rear end.
As far as the transmission is concerned you should use the amsoil universal ATF. it is rated for the ATF+4.

Works for me

:) Using Amsoil Severe Gear Lube 75-90 in front and rear diff. , and their ATF fluid in the 6 speed transmission and transfer case. No problems, limited slip diff in truck. I pull a 22' enclosed trailer and the rear diff. temp is not excessive.

How soon you getting your truck? Mine is 140 miles away and waiting for a transport truck to haul it to my dealer. Ordered it on March 12.

I thought about all of that - and posted questions to the same, and I was always told not to add any limited slip formula to it. Yes, it was the right weight (per the book).

So, what brand DID you use?

I had Amsol in all boxes in my previous truck, a 98. 5 dually and w/o any problems.

When I purchased my 04. 5 my Amsol dealer who also is the DC service manager recommended that I use what comes in the truck and replace it with the same when it is time to change. That is my plan unless some real convincing person changes my mind... ... ... ... :)

Well, if he won't tell us what brand he used this is pointless, unless we hijack it for a -general discussion of differential oil (which is what we're doing anyway) . It would be nice to know if there is a 75-90w lube that causes chattering, but I guess we'll never know from this thread. :(

Sorry should have said what i put in it. It was texaco syn-star 75-90. Seems as if many like the Red Line,Amsoil, Royal Purple in place of factory stuff. I was over at the Ford truck dealer the other day and saw a CTD out in front of the service area and asked the service manager what was up with it. Apparently the guy had some sort of engine issue with it and brought it to the local dodge dealer and was denied warranty due to the fact that he had been running one of the above mentioned brands in the crankcase and extending his oil change intervals. The guy got pi$$ed and went over to ford and traded it in. So how will this effect my warranty on this??This is why I am partial to the oem stuff. I know we could fill pages debating this. My dodge dealer is a real ***** so i try to keep things as simple as possible. :-laf

Simple as possible and not worrying about warranty issues means only one thing. Use the Stock oil. Buy it from the parts department at your local dealer and save your recept... it doesnt get any simpler then that and you know the original oil works fine with no shudder.

My 04 did the same thing. Switched it to the Royal Purple 75-140 and the launch shudder was gone. NO ADDITIVE is used in our trucks rear-end, there are no clutchs in it. The owners manual states to use no limited slip additive.

I used Castrol 75-90 synthetic in the diffs. Has worked great. Valvoline makes ATF+4. You can get it at Auto Zone for about 3. 70 qt.

The AA axles do not require additive for the LSD.
