Commercial Forum ???

All,

I'm going to be purchasing a 5th wheel and will need a generator for OCCASIONAL use. Where I usually tailgate I have hookups so this would only be used for a few times a year.

Is the Honda 2000 large enough to run 1 ac unit as long as I don't use any other electric? If not are my options to go with 2 of them or Is the Honda 3000 large enough?

I don't want to get one of those 500 buck cheepie ones cause they are way too loud. But I'm trying not to break the bank as I'm getting a 05CTD and a 5th wheel at the same time.

Thanks!

It seems to vary - some can run their A/C with the 2000 - I can - but some won't. But yes, if it WILL work, you would really need to isolate the A/C and run it alone as to not overstress the Honda...

I'd wait for the 5th wheel and try it before you make your purchase decision. It all depends on the inrush (starting) current the A/C requires. The EU2000 will handle some units - others require the EU3000.

I could not start the AC with a Honda EU2000 in my camper. I opted for an Onan 3600LP. Sure do wish that Honda would make an RV version of the EU3000. They would clean up on the RV generator business. Hello Honda :-laf

I noticed at the last Nascar race we were at , going around looking at what others were using for generators. What was loud and what wasn't. I noticed that the Honda EU3000 seemed to be the one of choice and they are Quiet. That will be my next purchase. I dont know about running the A/C as most people weren't running the A/C. They are nice units.

Well, if it's at or under 11,500 btu...

you should be fine unless, it's an older unit.

Most likely you are at 13,500btu... This gets dicey...

With a soft start kit on it you could most likely survive.

anything bigger I wouldn't try it.....

I have a 2004 toyhauler and one (for the time being) eu2000 honda.

I also have a 13,500 btu a/c unit. Yes it works safely with low/fan only

and the a/c compressor cycling on/off.

If it's a 100 degrees outside, or humid like in the southeast. I would run two eu2000's and forget about it.

Even a 3000 can struggle on a real hot day with a bigger a/c unit.

Plus two 2000's are much easier to move then one 3000... . ;)

Just my . 02's. . Good luck either way.

Get two Honda 2000's and the parallel<sp> box for about the same price ($2,500. 00) or a little less than an Onan. It will give you 4000 watts of power and run the entire camper, with a 13,500 btu a/c and still have power left over. Or start off with one Honda and upgrade later if you decide you need another for the extra power.

This will give you portable power in case of an emergancy at home. They weigh less than (53 pounds if I remember correctly) the 3000 and will run 13 hours. Check out camping world's web site or go to Honda's web site. I have been told the Honda's are allowed to be used in State and Federal Parks because they are so quiet.

I have heard those 500 dollar gens in other parks and feel like I am at a Nascar race. HA

Hope that helps in your decision making :)

Actually you may want to check Mayberry's ( www.mayberrys.com ) for a better price. Two EU2000's and a parallel kit for around $2000. 00 and free shipping. Two 2000's are the way to go. Much easier to load and unload than the 3000. The 2000's weigh about 50 lbs. each whereas the 3000 weighs about 150 lbs. Also if you plan only to run lights and/or the microwave then you only need to run one. Very quiet Gennys :)
