I havent been getting any emails when people respond to my posts. I have aol 9. 0 and i turned off the spam controls, it worked for a while but now i dont get any emails anymore.
There's an announcement at the top of every one of the forums says "Email notification temporarily disabled" explaining why. I've turned it back on just now for testing but it may go back off any minute. Trying to figure out what the problem is. So far it looks like one ISP in particular is refusing emails and hanging up the whole system.
It's probably aol, the most widespread computer virus in history.
Steve: Doesn't it seem like poor design for the system to halt because of the email issue? It seems like the system could put the email requests into a queue and move on to better things. It's not like someone replying to a post even knows who the emails are going too.
Yes, klenger - very poor design IMO. I didn't even know that's how it worked until I started researching this issue. I'd wondered why sometimes posts would take a long time but assumed it was a MySQL issue. The next version of vB is going to do emails a different way. Noone had come up with a fix or workaround for this that I can find - the only solution offered was to turn off email notification. Good news is I worked out a workaround doing just what you proposed. I read your message before the edit and didn't see the edit until now - you must have had a little birdie on your shoulder , or maybe your little birdie flew over here :-laf !! Oh, btw it wasn't AOL it was verizon.net - it was refusing connections all day yesterday so it was timing out completely. I also noticed that there are a number of other slow connections though - AOL being one of em and hotmail being another.
Verizon really needs to focus on their Wireless portion of the company. It seems when they do deal with Wires everything becomes a botched effort. My trip to NH this past week was a communication nightmare. the whole upper half of N. H just could't get thru to anyone. Finaly we found a loophole by using Credit Card calls and that enabled us to get a line out of the state.
