Gypo oil filter.
Well how many valves did it have ????
That is why they changed the oil filters on the 24v, filter failurs due to higher oil pressures. My guess :: Gypo Zippy Lube also had gasser 10 w 30 in it too.

Well thats too bad. #ad
If there was only a little training these quick lubes would do.

You mean to tell me that the guy didn't want any help? Guess he wasn't interested in the TDR either. Sounds like a Flowerpoke owner or something.

Doc

Maybe he's a Driver.

Drivers - people that just happen to drive a truck with a diesel engine.

Owners - they're the kind of people that are attracted to the TDR.

The same thing happened to my brother inlaw. The oil filter ruptured. It had just been installed at his local Dodge dealer. Luckly, no damage was done. The dealer towed the truck back to their shop, installed a new filter and power washed the under carriage. The dealer told him that they had heard that a bad batch of MOPAR filters were out in circulation and they were trying to get more information from DC to try and identify shipping numbers.

No truck at present. Waiting to see what the 2003 model year has to offer in the Ram 2500.

The guy is surely on his way by now, but not knowing what year and if it was an auto or not, any one of the fitting lines could have come loose or blown a seal. Like the others suggested, I would start with the type filter and go from there.

Do you have any more info on the situation?
Dave

I agree with the above posts about the bad oil filter-"the turbo was dry,but the filter was wet". 24v's have more pressure and require the more sturdier Fleetguard filter. The after market junk hasn't (and proabably won't) caught on to the stronger filter casing.

Rattlin',
I agree, this guy was just a "Driver" - Good observation. I was going to inform him of the TDR, but knew that he had no interest in learning about his "P. O. S. Truck" as he put it.
Big D,
NO more info, but I assume that he's on his way. I forgot to mention that he had actually bought a case of oil at the Shell next door and was going to just refill the crankcase (he said it took 16 quarts) and see how far he would get.

If the pressure relief on the oil pump failed it would blow the seal on the oil filter.

At 5:00 AM a couple weeks ago I was heading for Vegas to a dyno event, and I noticed a trail of oil to where I had parked the night before. I had done a 9:00PM oil change in the dark and the first thing I looked at was the filter. It was a no brainer since I had several more on the shelf so I changed it. Still can't see anything wrong with it but the point is with the new/new filter I made it to Vegas and back, twins turbos and all #ad

I was driving home late last night from a strike rally, when I noticed a Dodge towing a 5th wheel parked in a BP station that had closed for the night. He had the hood up, so I stopped in to see if I could help. He had just come up a big grade out of Cincinnati heading south. He was pretty bummed and rightfully so. There was oil sprayed all over the right side engine compartment. The turbo was dry, but the hose to the intercooler was soaked. Oil had sprayed back all over the underside of the truck, all over the A-arms (2wd) and everything around the turbo. I couldn't see where it was coming from by the light of my Mag Lite. After a few seconds talking to this guy, it was obvious he knew nothing about his truck. He didn't even know how many valves he had! I offered to take him to a hotel, but he said he was going to take his mustang out of the 5th wheel and take that to a hotel. I gave him the # for the local Dodge dealer and directions and that was all he would take.
Anyone have any ideas what could have failed to spray oil like that? If the turbo failed, wouldn't that spray oil into the intercooler, or out the exhaust or both? Any ideas?
BTW, the education this forum provides is incredible and has been incredibly valuable.

He had a Quaker State oil filter and it was too wet to tell where it was coming from. Sounds possible though.

How much ya wanna bet the guy took the thing to the big Q and they didn't notice that the old oil filter gasket didn't stay on the filter and installed the new one with two gaskets? That'll spray everything with oil really well. This guy was definitely a driver.

Hombre/Bigsaint,

Day 1 I was at 633. I did some parking garage tuning back at the hotel that night (really pi$$ed off the bicycle security guys). Day 2 I improved 40 horse on diesel only (515) but my clean air fuel system hicupped and I was just a click under 650 as measured on the dyno. With the clean air fuel system on I went from 515 to 581 which is down about 40 horse. I need to make adjustments since the clean air fuel system has changed with all the new plumbing under the hood now #ad
Then we will assault the 700 rwhp mark. Envision Mt. Everest with a diesel truck on top #ad
