Quite a while back Marco relocated his IAT sensor to his air box with decent beginning results. He was going to relocate the MAP sensor also. Does anyone know if he did this? Has anyone else? What were the results and where did you relocate too? Pictures?
 
Yes, I've relocated the IAT but not into the air filter box.

( The air box was gone I use a BHAF )



I've relocated it into the intake horn above the air heathers.



Results so far are OK. It's been there now for over 50K kilometers.

No more dirt build up, the sensor is still within the specs. All in all I'm happy with it.



The only downside I've seen so far is in COLD wheather the heathers are triggered after every shutdown for their normal cycle. That did not happen with the sensor in it's original location.

Once the engine was up to normal operation temps it would take a long shutdown before them heathers were triggered again.



In the new location the heathers will be triggered even after a five minute shutdown.
 
Marco please explain why the grid heaters are cycling after a shutdown :confused:



Reason I ask is that with my truck and the use of my jake brake I clean my IAT every 10k and it is carboned up every time and I would like to relocate the IAT senser but I live in cold climate and the grid heaters are very important to me.

I think he means that the heaters cycle if he shuts the engine off and then goes to restart it a few minutes later, even though the engine is still warm. I am guessing this happens because the intake air is always colder in the air horn versus the origional location. Sounds like the Practical Solutions Grid Heater System Saver would eliminate this.

Marco, if you still had the air filter box would you have put it there? Do you think it would be better, worse or the same as where you have it now? Thanks Marco

I relocated my AIT sensor to the air horn also, I also have a PS intake heater by-pass installed, my grid heaters work correctly, when the engine is cold, they work, when its hot, they don't.



I live in Michigan and it gets kinda chilly, I've had it relocated since April or May of last year, no issues with the heaters, and the sensor is clean as a whistle.

How about a picture and/or a description of how and where you located the IAT on your air horn. I know it takes a 14mm tap but what else is needed

Thanks for the link and picture Marco. I know it is 14mm but not sure what thread size but I helped my son relocate his in to the back end of his BHAF and he should remember those numbers. I thought I would just put a thin nut on the inside of air horn to hold in place. Any comments on this idea. I can get a wiring extension so it would just be plug and plug and leave old IAT in p lace

Thin nut AND some lock tite. I was pondering the same thing until I figured out what would happen if that nut should vibrate lose... . It will fit past the grid:eek:
