I was advised by Smarty to pull leads off both batteries to "reset" ECM as my new touch gives an error message that cant communicate with ECM. Apparently another guy with a 2018 had the same issue and by doing this the smarty was then able to communicate to the ECM

Question is what will I lose and do I need to writing anything down first, cant recall if there is a password to reactivate radio, etc. I assume I will lose all radio presets, seat presets

Not sure why this would fix a communication issue with the ECM?

Thanks

There is no Radio password, that was far in the past when radios have been just radios.
The unit you have KNOWS from the Bus in which vehicle it sits, and as long as itbstays in that vehicle it doesn't ask for a code.
This units are just an input/output unit to the cars main electronics, an integral part of it.

Radio presets will stay bit current mode won't be. Time will need to be reset and things like auto seat warmer setting may need to be reset. Don't have auto seats so can't comment on that.

Do you know if there is a way to deactivate the radios ability to know its moving so the passenger can use all functions in motion. My aftermarket radio had that ability just by not hooking up one wire.

I don't know. I don't have factory nav (nor did I want it). The only thing that I found I wanted to play with when moving might be the setting menu and I can live without it.

I must have pulled my batteries on the website. Had to log in to reply. Anyway, when I disconnected both I lost the phone connection and have not been able to get that back. My daughter lives far away. I also lost some other presets, like the horn being silenced when you lock with the key fob. Radio presets stayed as mentioned above. I recall a Sears tech plugging in a device that kept a small charge going when the bats are replaced. Thought maybe looking for one of those might be a good thing to have. But that was in my 04 which had a cigarette lighter socket.

Google Lockpick for Ram/Chrysler.
It can be done but you'll loose your warranty, it's like jailbreak an Android Phone.

And no, there isn't a cable you could cut, all information is in the Bus System.

It won't hurt it. You can also go into the radio menu and do a factory reset which may or may not help. You'll lose all your settings either way.
