Installed a GDP (Glacier Diesel Power - Product List) 2 micron fuel filter kit today. That's only news because they just came out with a kit that fits early third gens with an APPS mounted on the engine instead of under the battery like later trucks had.
It's a high quality kit with a heavy powder coated bracket and Push-lock line and fittings. Even comes with a fitting for your fuel pressure gage if you have one.
The only down side was I had to relocate my PacBrake pump because with the way the bracket has to climb over the APPS, there isn't room for the pump anymore. Thats fine with me though - I always hated the way it looked up there. .

Those of you that run a 2 micron, how often do you change it?

I will probably get pound on by the "experts" but I change mine every 10,000 miles. I do this when I change the engine mounted fuel filter. That way I do not need to remember which one was changed and which one wasn't. Besides filters are cheap insurance against a fuel system failure.

BTW, the engineering definition of an EXPERT is: EX an on known quantity and spurt is a drip under pressure.

That looks like a GREAT installation, and looks like you keep your engine bay clean enough to eat out of.

Looking at the brake fluid reservoir- if that's stock brake fluid that has become dark, you may want to consider heavily bleeding your brakes to get new fresh (lighter) fluid in the system. That gets moisture out and helps calipers to last longer...

Seriously though- That installation looks great and neat enough to be factory!

FWIW, I run a 10 micron filter (Fleetguard FS1251, or Donaldson equivalent) on my aux tank... I prefilter every drop of fuel that goes into my main tank through that filter. I have ran as much as 50k miles of truckstop fuel from across the country, and never plugged that filter. That spin-on filter is actually SMALLER than the drop-in element that goes into the factory filter bowl.

I don't think its the typical dirt in fuel that causes issues as much as it is the suspended water that the OE filter can't catch (regardless of filter claims).

I installed their frame mount system on my truck in 2007. I did the first filter change at over 3 years and 30K miles. It could have gone a lot longer. It is installed after the factory filter. Talk about getting clean fuel.

Yep. . Thats Clean. . you should see the salt ,chloride, dirt invested engines that show up here. . I will NEVER understand why people are so lazy. . washing engine bay monthly is not that hard or difficult. . Some of the corrosion due to chloride runs into $$$$ to repair, then they ***** & whine about the charge. .

Thanks for the comments. I try to keep it clean but must admit, I really worked it over with degreaser before this install to make sure the chance of getting any dirt in the open fuel system during the install was kept at a minimum. It's not hard to keep it clean when it takes me 14 mo. s to put 6K miles on it.
J - Your probably rite, it's been 3 or 4 years since I had the dealer flush the system. I like to have them do it because they use their Star tool to actuate the anti-lock valves during the process (at least they said they do) and fully flush that expensive item. OTOH, I hate to go back to them because last time, they got brake fluid on my paint.
But it's clearly time for new fluid.

I change mine every 30K or when pressure drops, which ever is sooner. I have made 30K this far with no pressure drops. I would do 15K without a fuel psi gauge.

I installed a Hobbs adjustable pressure switch that turns on an idiot light. I've adjusted it so that it almost turns on the light at full throttle. As soon as the light starts to come on when I'm mashing on it, I know it's getting to be time to change the FF.

I just installed this same GDP system on my truck today. It was an simple hour-and-a-half job. I found it easier to take out the front driver-side wheel well liner to get to the lines/etc, and I'm glad I did. While installing the lines, I found that a ground wire had been chafing on the metal air inlet tube (evidently since the truck was built). I split open a short piece of fuel hose, and zip-tied it around the wire at that point. For those who've also installed this system and run a Cat 1R-0750 filter on it: is an o-ring needed on the center threaded nipple to run that filter on the filter base from the kit?
