what if any are the difference

i am looking for a fiberglass shell for my '03 3500 ctd. i found one off a 2002---are there any differances in the bed? or am i limited to 3rd gen?

It might fit, but doubt it will look good. Body lines are very different on the 2nd versus 3rd gen cabs. I picked up a shell for my 05 for $1500. 00 otd painted to match. Even if you put a shell on the truck, I don't think you can get rid of your commercial plates and legally carry anything in the bed, shell or not.

the biggest difference between pre 03 tops is the shape of the head wall of the bed against the cab, the newer trucks are a sweeping curve across the whole width of the bed and previous ones are turned in at the corners and straight across the window area, this makes sealing the bed against leaks a little tricky, also the newer trucks as the bed goes from front to back ,the outside dimension of the outside edge turndown narrows as it approaches the rear of the truck , it isn't totally straight as on older trucks, the rear is narrower than the front

Guys, an 02 1500 IS a third gen. The new body came out in 02 on 1500's only and then the 2500/3500 incorporated the new body in 03.

The canopy will look and fit just fine.
