Before I bought this truck- '03, 3500- I asked every CTD owner I saw how they liked their truck and gads, you couldn't get them to quit raving. Had a '98 Ram gasser before this truck, anybody that rode in it was impressed with the ride.

Had two F-150's before that one, and a '79 Dodge to start.

This is the best one yet, but then there's that old saying;every frog has to praise his own pond. I might get a Ford with the Cummins, but it would depend on what Dodge had for power.

matt400, you are right about that but if i'm not mistaken it is still american parts going on the truck. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that toyata makes a crappy truck i just prefer the american brand.

Sorta like the GM guys bragging about what an accomplished diesel engine builder Isuzu is. Ever check to see how many V8 diesels Isuzu built before the D-Max? Looks like NONE to me.

Don't know about V8s per se, but they have been building Diesel engines since 1936. Not too shabby.

Having said that, I'll stick with the CTD and my Dodges. Every truck we have on the farm 2 tons and below is a Dodge. Have been since 57. We've got 5 as of today.

As others have said:

DC- Cummins engine

GM- Allison trans

Ford- crew cab/long bed/dually possibly F450 or 550 to carry a heavy camper

I did like our previous GMC crew cab w/ 8. 1L/Allison but THIRSTY

Wanted a long bed with the CTD- the rear seat of a QC is a compromise to get the Cummins. And didn't want to wait for a LB mega cab, with all the new emissions stuff.

Dodge Power Stroke or Ford Cummins

If you're only choices were a Dodge with a Power Stroke or a Ford with a Cummins, which would you choose?

With the last version of the powerstroke, that would be a no brainer. I would never own the 6. 0 in anything. Who knows about the 6. 4 yet, pretty complex machine. I also do not care for the turn signals over the headlights styling of the latest Ford. I do like the F450 option with 19. 5 wheels, the integrated trailer brake control, the hefty front control arms and King Ranch interior. If I could have an F450, with last years front end styling, and a 5. 9 Cummins, backed by the G56 with taller gearing, it would be perfect, and IMO better than the Dodge I have now. Of course the QC is way better than the Ford ext cab. The Mega, which I tried is overkill. The CC Ford is about the ideal size.

Can't vote, my option is not there.

I have worked on chevys, owned chevys they were at the time better to work on. Fords are not my favorite, worked on, cussed over, bled on, no thanks. So far my truck has treated me alright, never left me walking, and done everything asked. I would never have thought of buying a Dodge if it hadn't been for the CTD. The Toyota, are you Fn kidding? I'd have to do some homework and think on it.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I actually bought the Cummins TD because it came in a Dodge. I've owned Chevys (5), Fords (4), Buick (1), Subaru (1), Mazda (1), Isuzu (1) but nothing other than Mopar in recent years. They have been by far the most reliable vehicles I've had. I now buy nothing else. When I went shopping for something to tow a 5th wheel two years ago, I didn't even think about anything other than the Dodge. The fact that it had a Cummins in it was just a bonus. If it had housed a Powerstroke or Dmax, I still would have bought the Dodge.

It would be a toss-up between Ford and Dodge at that point...

I will never buy a Chevy truck. Period.

I like my Dodge, but the Fords are nice also. I have been leary of the PSD since they came out with the 6. 0L.

I prefer the Dodge Quad Cab to the Ford Extended Cab - those suicide doors suck.

Later ;)

"If the Cummins Turbo Diesel was in a Ford or Chevy instead of the Dodge, how would that change things?"

It would make the Chevy and the Ford much more truck like.

Well, if your in the minority, then I'm there too! I LOVE the Dodge, and have owned several over the 59 years of driving!:)

I've had 3 Dodge trucks in a row now... . a '92, '01, and now an '07. Each has seen their fair share of work, towing and abuse. All kept coming back for more. We also currently have an '05 Silverado that my wife uses as her DD. As hard as it may be to believe, in its 41K miles, it has had more suspension and steering issues than all three Dodges combined. I would hate to see what we would be dealing with if we actually worked it hard.

I'll be sticking with Dodge for myself until they give me a reason to change.

i'm another guy that only bought a dodge because of the CTD. the motor has been great but the truck itself is the biggest POS i've ever owned. it's not a work truck & gets babied, is an '03 with just over 50k on it and it's going back to the dealer for the 6th time for loss of overdrive (these idiots just can't get it right), just replaced the entire exhaust that rotted right off the truck, a/c occassionally stops blowing and i have considerable rust above the rear wheel wells that chrysler doesn't want to know anything about and then there's my issues with the dealer itself (Lloyd Haak Chestertown CJD Chestetown, MD) who i will NEVER but another vehicle from after being ripped off on parts, ripped off on repair that ultimately was unneccessary as problem continued and lied to by several service managers (there's a new one everytime i go in) and absolutely no response to phone calls AND letters. they are the worst dealer i've ever dealt with and my truck is just a total over-priced piece of crap that runs great. like the big trucks i wish i could buy a glider kit from ford and put this motor in it. this is my first and last dodge and even the cummins can't make up for everything else being CRAP!!!!!!!!!

IF Dodge did not have the CTD???? I would probably go back to gas.

My '96 3/4 with the V-10 gasser never let me down in 170K, Pulled like there was no tomorrow, got marginal fuel mileage, but was still the classiest truck on the road. To this day it still turns heads. Now that I took the next step and went with the '07. 5 3500 aAuto, 6. 7 CTD, the truck and power package draw more good looks that th '96. There ain't no lookin' back now.

'96 2500 V-10 @ 400 HP 4X4 170K

'07. 5 3500 6. 7, Auto, 4X4, dark mineral Gray, 3500 miles

things would get a whole lot more interesting if cat or detroit diesel had something to compete with the CTD. i can't imagine a lot of guys are IH fans & buy fords because IH builds the powerstrokes but there are a lot of guys that are cat fans so i would imagine cats in fords would sell quite well. too bad it can't be like buying a big truck & have the choice of engine & transmission
