I purchased my CTD about 90 days ago. I'm the third owner, and still trying to figure out some of the mods that have been made. Joe G has been a great help with this. The PO doesn't really know a thing, but with help I've been able to figure out a few things using maintenance logs from the first owner. I'm still putting together the puzzle. In 1999, there was a change in turbo and injectors. The injectors were from Dr. Performance and called "twister injectors". I've done searches and found nothing regarding what they are and what kind of hp they produce. If an injector is pulled, the number on it may not reveal what tip it has. The original Dr. Performance is out of business, so no help there. The turbo was changed at the same time, but the identification stamp on the turbo indicates the same number used on the stock turbo for the '95 CTD. I've been told by a diesel shop that the turbo is out of a newer 2nd generation CTD. Were there any changes done to the stock turbos between '95 & 98. 5? If so, what were they? Any assistance would be appreciated. BTW, the price for becoming a TDR member is the best $35 I ever spent. Great information and I've met some great people.

Hi Skip, welcome to TDR :)

Good luck finding the answers to what those Twister injectors are, Dr. Performance was more secretive than anyone when it came to revealing details about their products. Dr. P's packages were VERY expensive for what you got. How well does your truck run, is it very smokey and is it smooth? Some modified trucks ran great, many did not including my grandfather-in-law's '98 12-valve which smoked and has run rough ever since the system was installed.

Vaughn--Thanks for the response. I've heard a few stories about these mods. I just had some work done on the pump. That's when I learned that it is a 215 hp pump with a spring kit and #11 Plate. The main problem was the AFC and the timing. The work was done at Oregon Fuel Injection in Eugene, OR. Their prices were very reasonable, the work top notch, and the customer service excellent. The truck runs very well and seems strong. I'll continue to piece together the puzzle. As I said, Joe G has been a tremendous help. He really is a guru of these 2nd generation CTDs.

If the turbo was changed out and still has the factory plate showing its off a 95 its possible it could be a WH1C instead of a HX35. The WH1C was popular because it was the preferred charger back then to make a 35/40 Hybrid out of them. The "Twister" injectors were a set of 215's that had swirl ported tips if my memory serves me correctly. I have the info from them here somehwere among all the diesel stuff I packratted over the years and will look for it for you Saturday nite after work. The original Dr. Performance's stuff didn't do alot other than lighten your wallet and could be a good reason for their demise... . Andy

Hammer--this is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. The turbo housing says HX35W. Could the WH1C be in a HX35 housing? Unless the stock turbo blew apart I can't think of any reason they changed it unless it was for an upgrade. I know that I can bury the needle on the boost gauge at 35+ psi. Might be wrong, but I thought the output boost of the stock turbo was about 21 psi, unless the increased boost is a result of some of the other mods. If you can find that additional info on the injectors I'd appreciate having it passed on. I've heard similar feedback on the Dr. Performance mods. Thanks again for your feedback.

Skip if the truck is running good I'd keep it set up the way you have it, except a turbo upgrade may be worth considering later on. Dr P's injectors were probably pretty decent, I think the injection pumps they messed with didn't always turn out so good.

If you're in the Oregon area you might check out Northwest Bombers . . . we're fixing to have our big annual gathering in Arlington WA the 3rd weekend in February.
