Hey Guys,

Funny how life works. My cousin was talking about HX40s and costs of them in the last few days and oddly I mentioned I don't need one of those at this time. Well, seems I may after yesterdays drive.

Goes like this... .

The current set up on the 1990 is a 1997 HX35 with the original 1990 18 cm H1C exhaust snail. I run about 32 psi having only changed the fuel screw and addition of an intercooler, ASA intake, 4" exhaust, timing at 1. 79, 60 psi springs, and exhaust manifold. My pyro can reach 1300+ if I want it to, but that is mostly when towing and slightly lugging it. Issue is, the H1C housing is leaking as it is so corroded. I tried machining the flange area to clean it up but its too thin to fully clamp there now. So I decided to stick on the 16 cm non wg snail I had on the shelf left over from the crew. All was great till I took a test drive and hit 1400 F and I was not even into it all the way and ambient was 50F! So thats not gonna cut the mustard..... :{ SO i thought about getting another H1C housing... ...

But this set up has been in there now for 3 years. And as the weak link getrag is now gone and I have a 5600, I want a little more. I always held back on doing this due to the gutbag.

Question is, with the above mentioned, what injector would be recommended? Would the stock 1990 9mm units flow enough to drive the Super 40? Or would something like a DDP stage 1 or 2 type injector work? Maybe PODs? Bosch 190s?

I do not want smoke as this truck goes all over the country and I would still like to retain a good fuel economy (yes I know mpg is dictated by ones right foot! :D) so I am looking for a balanced engine. I suspect the current injectors could work but with the 40, it could likely use a bit more.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Primary use is towing 11K lbs as well as daily driving only in summer months. HP wise I currently put down 274/720 at the wheels as it sits. Would not mind a bit more kick for the long hills but I also do not want to get into studs, head gaskets, etc so no not looking for a 150 HP + injector.

Thanks!

Robert

Id look into the injectors that peirs has and just go one over stock , since the stock ones are suppose to bigger in the 89,90, 91s than the 92s and 93s I got a houseing i think from a 92 or 93 that i obtained in a box of parts ill sell you cheap or trade ?

One over stock is what I was thinking as well.

Thanks for the offer on the parts! See, I kinda have another H1C housing on the original crew engine. But I want a bit more. So I am using this as an excuse to upgrade. :D ;)

I know its not the same but I have a pair of plus 40hp injectors in my 93 with a stock H1C and 4in exhaust it smokes a little but only when really getting on it, highest EGTs ive seen where 1300 with a 30ft van goose neck full of car parts, and i still get 21 mpg.

Get a set of "190's" from Piers. Thats the best bang for your buck and they won't ruin your engine or your fuel economy! While your at it get a 16mm turbo housing. you should get about 23 mpg highway no trailer. 18 around town with no blown turbos no melted pistons no grenaded rear ends or long walks home !

Where's a good place to get one ? I've heard that Ebay is full of chinese knockoffs, and they aren't worth purchasing. Is this true? Has anyone purchased ebay turbos and found this to be an issue ?

TIA

Solid advice! 190s are the tried and true ones.

What injector was factory on the 0804 CPLs? Was that not already about a 190 ish?

Yes. Ebay turbos are bad. Some even have the holset name on them and are from China! :(

Best place if you want a strait from holset part is www.turbosupply.com. Found them to be the best priced turbos so far.

I saw Robert the other day and was kidding him this was just an excuse for the crew cab not to be ready for Columbus.

Robert, 190's are considerable smaller than your 9mm stockers. The stock non-IC sticks are the equivalent to PODs, but PODs are hot and smokey. The 190's are smaller than stock IC injectors, and have more smaller holes, but get better horsepower and mileage due to better atomization. Did you read the injector stickey on 1st gen? It has all the sizes listed.

Yes, he was. And it is somewhat valid! But when its your daily driver, it gets priority!
