..... our Ram's with 4w disk/abs that's what.

I just had to comment on the stopping power of this truck after a close call last week. I was driving at freeway speed, around 70, with a bit of traffic around, and I did something stupid. I let my concentration on the road wander as I pondered a sticker on a car a lane over which read "Balls Deep. " Now there's quite a few ways to interpret this phrase, and my mind was running with some ideas. Once I came back to reality and looked up I saw the rear end of a Mercedes hard on the brakes in front of me, and I was still level on the gas pedal. Can you say BRAKE CHECK, yep I put everything I had into the brake pedal and to my surprise this big heavy beast stopped well short of the Mercedes and perfectly straight. As I glanced back in the rear view I saw little cars locked up, in the emergency lane, and basically all over the place trying to stop without using the car in front of them.

At that moment I felt pretty good about two things. First, having 8' of bed behind us is a pretty good "crumple zone" and of course the very effective brakes on my new Ram.

And yes I felt like an a$$ for letting my attention drift away from the road ahead... ... :(

whew

Sounds like you could have been "Balls Deep" in the Mercedes. I too have rear disc on mine, and they are awesome. A world of difference from the drums.

Rear drums to discs conversion?

My 2001 model 3500 came with discs front and drums rear and whilst I've been very happy with their combined performance, reading this thread got me wondering, it is both possible and affordable to consider an upgrade of the rear drums to disc brake operation. Would the existing ABS controller need to be upgraded also? Has anyone ever done this or is considering this? Any thoughts, suggestions appreciated as always.....

Cheers

Definitely excellent brakes. Mine has 4 wheel disc and I had to

use the antilock recently to avoid hitting someone that ran a

red light. I'm glad there was nobody behind me! :D
