I have a 235hp crate motor. Deciding whether to sell it or keep it and become my own parts station. It is complete pulley to flywheel ready to drop in and plug in. Is there a market? or should I part it out and sell it as a long block.

Well if it where me I would send it to DD and have a cam put in it and one of there fancy new VP44's on it, then I would send it to Piers and have the head ported and 0-ringed. After it got back I would stick it in my truck and sell the one out of the truck. Maybe while all that was happenign I might see if Marco would reprogram my ECM..... Well that is just me though. . , probably worth more (and less hassel) to sell it as a complete motor... Put an ad in the classifieds as there are lots of guys doing conversions out there.

Local Rebuilds

I have seen a couple of local rebuild shops that list a rebuilt 5. 9 with head around $4,000 echange so your really long block should be worth more than that.

You can let me store it for you if you want but of course it might accidently end up with the cam, ported/o-ringed head and a p-pump:D

holy cow

I seen long blocks for 8 grand I dont want to guess what a drop in would cost. Actually I think cummins nw sells drop in units for 12 to 15 grand no kidding. Go price one at cummins and you should no what the high end of the market is. thats kinda funny. The real high end of the market is the stealer.

Last time I was at Cummins looking for a engine ( its been a while) they would not sell new motors at all, only recons. The new stuff went to the truck builders only. I would be interested to see if you can get one now. BTW I have seen a few new units like he has and they seem to be selling for about $4000. 00-4250. 00 each remember that you have NO warrenty on one sold that way... I got my 24 valve motor for my conversion with the NV4500 and all the electonics off the doge truck. The seller said that the motor was out of a roll over with 2500 miles on it, I will soon find out as I'm going to hook up the PCM to a gauge cluster, and read out the miles. I paied $4200. 00 for the whole deal... .

William Cummins...

If it's a brand new virgin complete crate with pump, turbo, electronics and all, I don't see why you can't get an easy 8 grand.

Man! Someone musta owed you a big favor(or alotta debt) that you ended up with a crate engine!

I'd like to see it sometime.
