What is a CRUSH PLATE??

OK, dealer has to have my truck until tomorrow because the crush plate for the rear end didn't come in until late this afternoon... if I may ask. . what is this crush plate????

You are probably refering to a "crush sleeve".

It is used to set -up the pinion in the rear end.

crush plate or sleeve or what evr u want to call it is a steel space that goes between the inner and out bearings on the pinion. as u tighten the nut it will allow u to load the bearing without stopping them from rotating. a properly set up crush sleeve will exhibit some where in the area of 20inch ppounds of drag on a properly loaded pinion.

It is very important. With out it the bearings will fail.
