from the testing charts i have the flow#s are about the same as a k&n but, the filtration is about 33% better than the stock type, and almost 100%better than the K&N. :--)

Gentlemen,

I installed my cold air intake (dura-flex, flange, band clamps, and coupling)... it looks good too. After install, I started the engine and you can feel the air being drawn into the inlet of the ducting.

The seal between the air box and fender is horrible (just foam weatherstripping between the two pieces). Am I missing something? I've only had the truck two weeks so am unsure whether there's supposed to be an air horn (like my 2001. 5 had) connecting the air box to the fender. If not, I'll have to fabricate something to fix that lousy setup.

I mounted my toilet flange, after modifying it, on the inside of the air box. Used 2" x 1/4" counter-sunk bolts to fasten it to the air box. Wrapped some high-voltage electrical insulation tape around the seat of the flange to make a tight seal between it and the air box... no air getting through there. It took roughly 22" of dura-flex to reach from the bottom of the air box to the lower lip of the fender well. At the end of the duct I shoved a 3" ABS coupling, clamped it, and screwed it the the fender well.

Now, if only I'd get my Amsoil EaA filter. It's on back order. They shipped me a hundred pounds of oil, but couldn't manage to stock a 1. 5 pound filter. I'm hoping it'll ship soon.

Both the AEM and Amsoil are the nanofibre type of filter, I think i will get one myself. I went back to my "swisscheese" stock airbox (hadn't seen the posts and articles about the 4"hole and ducting or I would have done that) w/K&N drop in.

I also have a Scotty air V, but it seems to run about 50 to 75 deg warmer than the above setup. I have no doubt that the AEM and Amsoil both filter better than the K&N (which came with my banks kit, should tell you something!). But I check the intake, post filter, and have never been able to see any dirt on a white cloth. Still it makes me nervous, time for a ANOTHER change.

wish you guys said something earlier i had 8-9 of them all just went out dont even have one to look at. pm me if you want some Oo. :-laf

to answer a previous statemant the nanofiber technology is a patented filter in which donoldson owns and amsoil can use thats it !---amsoil resently released the nanofiber oil filters as well :D

Gentlemen,

I have an extra 2-foot of dura-flex ducting. If anyone is unable to find it in their area, please let me know and I'll mail this to you for what I paid for it.

I have the AirAid and have been very pleased with it. I also have the pre-filter on it.

You can get them online for about $100.

BIG BOB,

Do you have the modular intake tube also? I'm not sure how much of a restriction the stock silencer tube really is to our intake system (Airaid claims 20% more air flow gained with their tube). How much is air intake noise increased with Airaid's tube? I'll do a search and maybe find a thread that answers my questions. How about the Cool Blue torque tube?

I made my own intake tube out of a 4" exhaust pipe, powdercoated black and the use 2 90* rubber elbows, clamped it all together and installed. Cost was about $50.

I also run the Airaid and have been pleased with it. I was wondering if the Torque Tube or the Cool blue hose will fit my setup also???

Stock airbox mods

Lots of interesting reading on the homemade mods to stock air filter housings (closet flanges and the like). Any pictures?
