Looking for a box cover or cap (Is there an real name for these things??) for the Mega. Preferrably one that is not ugly and maybe even silver in color.

Question is, what is a good brand?

Anything special I need to order on it?

Any reccomendations?

Thanks!

I've been very satisfied with my A. R. E. I've had it for 6 years and it has proven to be strong and durable.

Any cap manufacturer can match the factory paint on your truck.

If you are going to carry anything on top (I have a rack for my canoe) tell the dealer when you are ordering. Some makes and models will get extra reinforcement where the racks mount.

The place I bought my A. R. E. cap also sold Raider caps. The Raiders looked like good caps, but I didn't think they were as good as the A. R. E. The Raiders are less expensive and probably a better value for the money.

The three fiberglass caps you hear the most about are ARE, Leer and Snug Top. I think Snug Top is the most expensive although it may not be the best. I have a Snug Top and really like it however I've also heard good things about the ARE. I had a Leer and had trouble with window leaks and the door hardware. There warranty was almost nonexisitant. They wanted the cap returned to the factory instead of the dealer repairing the problem and after it was gone for about a month I got it back with scratches on it and the windows still leaked. They wanted to send it back to the factory again????? Ya right!!! Look at all the styles and different type window configurations, front slider or not(also front window that folds down for cleaning)back door hardware etc. All of these companies will match your factory paint.

If you go with a tonnuea cover then look at an Undercover.

Undercover:. Available Models

I have had many tonnuea covers over the years, the fiberglass ones may look a little better, but for function and ease of take off and on the Undercover is by far the best. It is also around half the price of a fiberglass tonnuea.

I like the roll up covers by Agri-Cover. Genos has the light weight one. The black
contrasts nicely with my silver paint. Don't know about other colors. They're light,
practical, and easily removed when we load up the slide in camper.

I have been very satisfied with A. R. E. shells. I have owned four of them and they have always been trouble free..... and look good too!

If you want a tri-fold there is xtang and couple others out there. I have the xtang on my truck and I'm happy with it.

I do currently have a trifold Mopar tondau cover on the truck. I just need a bigger cover so that I can put more back there when I go camping etc. and still have everything dry.

As for the toppers/caps, I guees ARE, Snug Top, and Leer seem to be the most popular. Will do some looking and see what I can find! :)

Thanks!

Robert,

This may not help you because I don't think Swiss Caps are available in Ontario, but with the hope of helping someone in the Indiana area...

I have had Swiss Caps on three of my trucks. The quality is excellent. I can't compare prices because I've never considered any other brands.

I bought mine directly from the factory in Patriot, Indiana, which is near Cincinnati, Ohio. When I ordered each of them, the salesman showed me what options were available and we discussed what I wanted. For example, the cap on my 2008 truck has four interior overhead lights, each separately switched and controlled by one master switch. I got exactly the window configuration I desired. The cap was painted to match my truck exactly.

The entire cap, including the paint, comes with a lifetime warranty.

These caps apparently are not available nationwide, but for members in the Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky area, they are one of the best around.

Here's their web site:

No, I don't work for Swiss Caps. I just like their products.

Thanks.

I also have the A. R. E. Z Series cap. I've had it on three trucks now and repainted from white to blue. No problems with it at all. I think I paid around $1800. I have the drop down front window to allow for cleaning the glass between the cab and cap.

Leer for me. I ordered an A. R. E. twice and both came in and had a big gap between the topper and the bed at the front of one side. I gave up and got a Leer and I am very happy with it. I also have a window in the front of the topper that can be removed for cleaning it and the window on the cab. I highly recommend that option. My wife's Snug Top doesn't have it and both windows are totally water spotted.

ARE is what I have ran in the pass and was happy with all three of them. The dealer does a good job putting them on and will go to bat for you if something goes wrong. I never need his help that is why i stayed with ARE

I second the Agri-Cover, if indeed it is simply a box cover of some sort you are seeking, not of full-on cap. Five years of absue from me and no problems. No water pooling or wind buffet. Lightweight aluminum bows make it tougher than it appears. Velcro side securing and a mechanical snap-in at the rear are fast and secure. Allows a full load in the bed simply rolled up, althouth its rails do come inward an inch-plus. I removed it once for a mega-load where max width was in issue. Keeps the load 100 percent dry. If you get a locking tailgate kit (Genos too, I think), the honest folks will be kept out. I bought it with short term in mind, assuming it would wear out and I'd go with a hard cover later. I've seen my friends removing the hard covers altogether or driving with them at a 45 degree angle just to carry what a truck should ... not so functional. If I kill this Agri-Cover, I will buy another.

I refer to "Truck Caps" as Canopies. Personally I like the Arrow Mark III http://arrowtruckcaps.com/canopy-truck-product-details/33/3/mark-iii or the Range Rider Vista Range http://www.rangerider.com/cap-models.html . These are both tall models. I don't like crawling into something low and banging my shoulders. Both of these companies are Canadian and are made in BC. I'm not sure if Arrow has dealers in your end of the country, but a quick call would answer that. I know Range Rider is just in the West end of both Canada and the US. If I can be of any help let me know.

Ok

Where's the regular guy who normally says " you do realize you're responding to a thread that's 7 years old"

I have an ARE that is slightly higher than cab high, along with an auxiliary fuel tank in the front of the bed. I opted for what is called a "Windoor" (combination of window & door) that is on the side of the cap and folds down to allow the filling of the fuel tank from the side of the truck. Works great!!! I am pleased with the quality of the ARE. Fit & finish are good. I, especially, like the fact that I can lock my tools and whatever else is in the bed of the truck. If someone wants to steal something, they have to break into the truck. My buddies would carry an outboard motor to & from the lake and when they wanted to stop at a restaurant, they would only park next to a window where they could keep an eye on the truck. My cap, also, makes the truck more aerodynamic for towing my travel trailer. You can see the "bug line" on the front of the trailer to indicate where the wind is hitting the front of the trailer.
