Would more RAM be worthwhile?

We're looking for a new laptop. Wife uses it for general accounting work (easy), but I'd like to to be able to run Solid Works (3D design software), so a good graphics card would be desirable. Want to have a DVD & CDRW. We have a Dell desktop, and like it. Wondering what other brands/lines to look at (probably a business class, rather than home use). Support & durability are important.

Also, what is the best kind of processor to get (Pentium or Centrion)?

What are your experiences, good & bad??? TIA!

edit: We're looking in the $2,000 range.

im looking at DELL 9100 or DELL XPS... anything with the 9700 ati mobility will be good enough currently there is the 128 mb version but when summer comes along they will have the 256. I would also get 1 or 2 GB memory.

As of a few years ago, there were only 5 manufacturers that made laptops in the world. Its possible to find the same model number on two different brand names.

Moral of the story... find the one with the most features, best customer support, and dont look at the brand name.

We’ve had several kinds. Dell would be my first choice, IBM second. We have three Dell Laptops at the moment. Support is great, get about anything ya need on-line. That’s really important with a laptop. As price is always a consideration at our place we have purchased Dells from their online refurbished, saved big $, still have a state of the art system with new 3 yr. Warranty. Not a lick of trouble with any of them. Oo. Oo.
