Advice on an older "pop- up" camper...

5th-wheel hitch accessory

I am looking for a used trailer and I was wondering what you guys would recomend. I hear Jayco and Alumalite are good brands. What are some others. The trailer I am looking for is a 28 ft 5ver with a slideout. Thanks, Wade

I have an Arctic Fox (see sig) and am very pleased with it. Sunnybrook is another good brand in the mid price range.

Are you looking at travel trailers or 5th wheels? I see you already have a 5th wheel hitch, so...

I can vouch for Sunnybrook. We've had ours over 4 years with no trouble. We plan to trade up in a year or two and will get another Sunny. Word of warning... . unless you are a very small person, get a bedroom slide. That's the main reason we are thinking of trading. Good luck!;)

Arctic Fox makes a 27 ft fiver with a 2 (I think) slides that has a very attractive and efficient floor plan - their quality of construction is excellent. If you can locate a used one and a price that fits your budget, be sure to look it over.

(edit)

I think the one I mention above is the same as Ken has provided pointers to - a GREAT unit!

I will put a good word in for any Newmar product. My American Star has been trouble free for 4 years & is well built.

My grandparents had a 37' tri-axle King of the Road 5er. 3 slides. They were full-timing it. They now have a 36' Bounder and a mobile home.

I like my Alfa Ideal a lot. Had it about 6 months. "Rough It Smoothly" twice a month.

Someday will full time it.

I spent the last two months looking at every 5th I could find. The best i found in the mid price range was the Wild Cat built buy Forest river. Very good fit and finish, I just bought a 29BHBP.

A close second in my mind was the laredo, with crossroads after that. This is based on what i could see at a dealer, not experiance with actully useing them.

Wilderness is a good trailer in the moderate price range. I love my Airstream, even though it costs about double what a Wilderness or Terry does. It tows so much better, good floorplan, materials, workmanship. You should look carefully because it is a personal decision and everyone has a different outlook. . .

Amsoil. uh uh uh. Sorry wrong thread. :D Serioiusly now.

Our Newmar American Star was 7 seasons old when we sold it. Even after heavy use this trailer was still like new and had stood up very well. They are however heavy and pricey but I believe you get what you pay for. We went back to a Newmar when we bought our new one.

If your buying one that is several years old, I'd suggest you stay with one that has aluminum frame with foam insulation. That will greatly reduce the problem with wood rot in a trailer that might have had or does have a small leak in it... ;)

After much comparing I recently bought a Forest River - Wildcat 250RKS. They are one of the few brands that make smaller TT (25-28ft) in the manor Rick describes. We're very happy with it.
