I think people oversimplify the illegal alien situation. They look at the jobs the guys do, and they say, "Wow, look how hard these people are willing to work, they are the salt of the earth and we can't get by without 'em". I ain't convinced. I expect there a large % of them are decent folks who would make good citizens --- BUT there is one thing that you can't overlook. Namely, if they had put in the huge amounts of work back HOME that they do HERE their countries would be in a lot better shape and they wouldn't have to come up here to start with!
Think about it - there are up to 12 million illegals in this nation, the vast majority from south of the border, who come up here and build all the infrastructure we take for granted. Fine home building, installation of sewers, sidewalks, streets, electricity, you name it. 12 million people who could easily use the American example to transform their governments from banana republic graft to full-fledged democracy. But the graft and corruption are so deeply embedded in their system at home, that it is easier to walk 1,000 miles and cross the border illegally HERE than to do what needs to be done at HOME.
Inevitably the illegals will bring with them the legacy of their political system, and as they attain political power through numbers we are going to see the same banana republic BS that they do back home. THAT'S why they should not be granted legal status unless they do the full immigration routine, including a good amount of training in American government and English. No habla Engles, no permanent status.
Think I'm wrong? Go to a border town and check out conditions. On the north side, ample prosperity, peaceable conditions, people putting their land and resources to work effectively. On the south side, only a few hundred yards away, with the EXACT SAME climate, natural resources, and opportunity to reinvent their government as on the north side, you see squalor, poverty, graft, corruption on an unbelievable scale. Why should there be such a huge disparity? After all, Mexico was a nation (and a powerful one) before Texas gained independence, they had equal opportunity to encourage industry, education, modernization as the Norte Americanos... but the system of graft and corruption destroyed their chances. And it's just a matter of time until we have the same thing here. Goodbye due process, hello la mordida. THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT
