Under the dash between the hood release and the parking brake release there is a small (1 inch long, 1/2 inch round) metal tube that has a connector on it and gets warm to hot even with the key off. I am concerned with battey drain and worst case if the thing heats up to hot, a fire.

I got the plastic piece that holds the fuse block in place ( mine was broken and fuse block was tie wrapped to the fire wall) and while move the block in place noticed this thing was very hot.

Any ideas what it might be? I am working on so many other problems thought I ask here to save some time. . ???

Yep.

Unless mistaken, it's the relay for the key "Halo Ring" and it could have sumth'n to do with the in-cab lights. Halo fo' sure.

You would be correct Greenleaf. It's what Mopar used to call a timer module. It's simply a bimetalic strip and a set of contacts inside the tube. It's used to keep the dome lamps and/or key halo on after the doors are closed. Very seldom had problems with them. Have never seen one start a fire. Occassionally the contacts will burn and stick causing a dead battery.
