I have a questions for those in the know.

I have a canister in the right side of the engine that is inline with my coolant hoses. The canister is about 4 inches in diameter and about 10 inches long. What is it? What does it do? Does it ever give trouble? If it does give trouble, where is the best place to get a replacement?

TIA,

Ronco

If you are talking about the one under the exhaust manifold, it's a transmission cooler. There are two coolers on your truck. One on the front of the radiator and the other using engine coolant is under the exhaust manifold. The transmission cooler lines fasten to the bottom of that cooler.

If the agravating (can't say what I mean on this formum) plastic "quick disconnect" cooler line fittings start to leak there are four total. The two in the bottom of the cooler plus the two in side of the transmission. You have to replace all four to be safe from failures.
