Dumb question about fuel lines

Advice Please

Hi,

I have a 79 Ford F250 2wd crew cab that I was thinking of putting a Cummins into. It would be a manual transmission for sure. Mostly used as a lightly loaded daily driver, but some heavey towing.

My priorities would be:

1) Easiest and simplest swap

2) best fuel mileage

3) cheapest

4) most power

5) availability of a donor truck (ihave time to search, no rush)

What would be the best year truck to find for a donor?

Thanks!

1. Any 12v CTD - I would stick with 91. 5 or later that was inter-cooled. 24v's require more electronics.

2. Best mileage IMO came from the 92-93's in stock form but 94-98's can be tuned to match.

3. The early 12v's with rotary pump (89-93) but see #4.

4. Depends on what you call power. I prefer the 96-98 12v from a manual transmission Dodge application which was rated at 215 and is easy to turn up. The power comes on low in the RPM range.

5. Can't help here but I have heard that working with an insurance adjuster might lead to a good donor.

If you are looking for a donor motor I have one.

It was listed in the classifieds a while back. Was going to use it in a project but never did.

It is a '96 180-hp original auto equipped. Now has a bellhousing/flwheel for a NV4500(no-trans) with a new in-box clucth kit.

Has all accesories, alt/ps/turbo etc. Have a used I/C from a 2nd gen truck, both 1st and 2nd gen motor mounts.

Hi Dan, thanks. I just sent you an email. I don't know if it went to you or not if your profile is wrong. If you didn't get it, let me know.

WTF is going on?

The reason your profile is messed up is that it is mine! I am Diesel Dan and I don't have a motor for sale. This is weird.

Opps, , my bad.

I go by Diesel Dan on some other forumns and mixed it up with this one.

What is really wierd is the board let me post under the "other" Dans name with my password:confused: !

GTX_Joel,

Send a PM or email too this Dan.

I looked and my add isn't current under the classifieds anymore.

Was that flywheel/clutch/bell housing ever used? I need that exact setup for my conversion if it is, email or pm me!

Thanks guys,

jon

the 96-98 12v 5sp motor for obvious reasons... but definately a 94-98 12v. the price difference isn't THAT great, and the P7100 is a tough SOB... if you have to replace a VE injection pump, the P pumped motor just made up the difference in price for ya.

If you are looking for ease of swap, and dont want to go hog wild with power (<250rwhp), then an early nonIC engine would be the way to go- no intercooler plumbing to worry about. But then there are issues with them, too, namely the head cracking, which isnt a poblem in itself if they arent bad. I think the first 1st Gens got the best MPGs on average- I know several guys who get in the mid 20s with theirs. I never got better than 22avg with intercooled ones.
