What is the (best/easy) mechnical Fuel pressure guage to install?

I have a 2000 CTD. What is the easiest/best mechnical FP guage to install on my truck. I want to use an isolator so I don't have diesel in the cab. Is there a company that sells all of the parts I need for the installation so I don't have to assemble the parts myself? Thanks

I'm sure nobody sells a what you lookin' for, all put together, but it's not that difficult to do. If you still don't want to assemble it, I'll get the parts and assemble them, then sell it to you. I have 2 SW mechanical fuel pressure gauges in mine, they're 30#'ers, no complaints.

An isolator will cost three times more than the rest of the system and IMO is totally unnecessary with diesel. If you use an almost closed needle valve($5) at the head of the system any leaks would be just a few drops and could be easily shutdown if there was one. Five years with absolutely no leaks on my non-isolated FP gauges. Don't use Teflon tape anywhere with diesel, it will eventually leak.

I got my dash-mounted Isspro mech. gauge set-up through www.wildcatdiesel.com



His setup uses a stainless steel braided line with AN fittings.



Easy install, and best of all NO LEAKS!

And a mechanical gauge of your choosing.



Unless you have a catastrophic failure you the gauge you choose, you should be worry free with the braided SS line. Biggest PIA will be getting it into the cab, but it can be done.

Are any of you guys running mechanical FP gauges using pillar mounted gauges?

What stymied me and caused me to change over to electical, was getting sufficient bend in the tubing to connect up in the pillar?

If you are running pillar gauges, how did you handle that problem?

Since my pillar mount gauge pod was full, I mounted my mech. fuel gauge with 1/8 stainless steel tubing under ashtray.

Mine's pillar mounted Vaughn... ..... if memory serves me correctly I used a 45 degree elbow off the back of the gauge to lessen the hose bend-but I can't remember for sure? I can tell you that I had MAJOR engine noise transmitted through the braided line into the pillar until I got smart and installed a grease gun hose between the braided line and the engine-problem solved!



I'll be swapping out my pillar hopefully ASAP-I'll check my install method out at that time for sure!

I have an autometer mechanical fuel pressure gauge mounted in the a pillar. It came as a complete kit from autometer with isolator. 0-15 psi. It was kind of a bear to route, and I had to get a 30" ss line to go from the isolator to the filter (also available from Autometer). There I hooked up to the filter with a tapped Banjo that I got from Genos. Total cost-about $190. Pm me for more details or questions.

Rethreaded gauge connection

I have an Autometer mechanical gauge which I took and rethreaded the fitting on the back to convert it from -4AN to 1/8" NPT. Then I used the standard nylon hose like is used for the boost gauge as my line, that was the only way I could route it to my dash pod (braided SS too thick and stiff!!).



So far no leaks, works great, no pulsations/vibes. When routing it I covered the line with rubber hose wherever it came in touch with something and ziptied it in place to make sure it wouldn't wear through.



Cheap setup, works great. One downside: my gauge only goes to 15psi.

Bshipley did you use any kind of casing around your gauge under the ash tray. My A pillar is full also so I need to go somwhere else and I don't want it on the dash

I used an Isspro 0-30# fuel pressure gauge mounted actually to the plastic cover underneith cup holder. Mounted with a single light metal "L" shaped bracket found at any parts store.

I just did this today, damn I'm happy now. I can hear my engine again, and the radio even. I have 2 fuel pressure gauges, and sounded like I had another engine on the dash, no more tho. Thanks JHanson, great idea!
