Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) What is the best recipe for power?

Hello again guys,



I finally got a 1998 12V 180hp auto that was a low mileage pull out. It will be going into the crew over the winter and will be conected to a NV5600. What is the best recipe for power. I am looking at 400-425 all day hp. Anyone have any thoughts (now there is a redundant question ).



Also I will be needing a air filter? What is the best on the market for flow and filtering?

Get an afe Proguard 7 or AFE filter if you're not worried about fine dust. I would use the stock '93 airbox with some holes cut in it as well as a foam prefilter to keep the rocks and the rabbits out. I had that on my old truck and modified it to fit my '97 and it seems to be working good. AFE makes a good quality product. I would talk to the guys at PDR. Pricing is good and they seem to know what they are talking about. 604-888-9285

I agree with the AFE air filter. As far as mods, open up the exhaust, (if it's still stock), 370 injectors and a different cam plate. The #10 seems to be a good all-around plate for a stick. With a mild turbo upgrade, you should be at or above 400. (My truck is weak, it needs a tune-up ). You might also need bigger DV's for the 180 pump, (not sure). And talking to PDR is a great place to get suggestions. Have fun.

He'll be fine on delivery valves, the 180 pumps have 181s.

What Joe said. Never had any issues running the 370s.



I would also add the 3k GSK. I don't have a set yet. On the wish list.



All my engine mods are in the sig. Should be arond 400 fwhp. Need to dyno and advance the timing, though. Need more turbo as well. To much fuel for the 40 since adding the 191s.

Good recipe for power? Hmmm a very good question.

1: Put all yer money in a box... ...

2: Take it to an honest, experienced, diesel mechanic.....

3: Liberally add well made, tried and tested parts.....

4: Test often, ask for advice, listen.....

5: Stir until golden brown... .

6: Serve Hot... ... ...

Basics: GSK, AFC Spring, timing 16-17, #10, 370's, 4-inch turbo--such as B1.



Gravy: stacks, 3-piece manifold, water/meth. AND a genuine 215 pump when you find one cheap.
