What is the best way to pick a diesel tuner

Like Edge or six-gun or banks. I am not gonna race or tow just want the xtra HP and mileage while i can see whats going on in my rig.



Also there are lots of threads that talk about punching holes in the mainfold foe EGT or "puting a hole in the wire" these are surefire give aways to DC about mods.



Can i get hp and mileage improvement without "permanent" changes?

I recommend either Edge or TST Products for power upgrades. I also recommend being up-front with your dealer about the mods. If you're not, and you do it behind their back and then have a warranty issue caused by the power chip, it's dishonest and a sure way to lose the rest of your warranty.



My dealer knows about my mods and I never remove them from the truck. I've had a power steering pump and a couple other things replaced under warranty. If a blow the turbo, head gasket, or rip my transmission in half because of my power upgrades, I don't expect them to cover it under warranty and they know that. Besides -- if I blow something up, I'll likely go with an aftermarket upgrade anyhow.



That said, I run the Edge EZ and TST PowerMax CR. I love the combination. It runs cool most of the time too. Don't run any boxes without EGT and Boost gauges. I drilled my exhaust manifold pre-turbo and have had no issues. If you don't want to drill yours, go with the ATS multi-piece exhaust manifold. It has a pre-drilled and tapped fitting for the egt gauge. It also evens the cylinder pressure where it enters the turbo. On the same token -- drilling the air horn for the boost pressure gauge is very easy. But if you don't want to, ATS also makes one of those with a few pre-tapped ports for the gauge, nitrous, water-meth, etc.
