I am testing a set of the Toyo Open Country M/T on the 18 inch Weld Wheels. Let me say, these things are sweet!!!! It is a 35x12. 5x18 tire that is e-rated. They look great and the ride is even better.
We put them on and immediately drove almost 600 miles with them. We were going for mileage so we ran them at 55 psi up front, and 50 in the rear. They are rated to 65 psi. The truck was noticeably quieter on the road and the ride was almost as nice as when I run my BFG M/T at about 36 psi. Since I've been home, I've dropped them down to 40 psi and feel like I could drive all day on them. I'm going to run them a little softer to see what they feel like at about 30-35 psi.
What I really noticed was the difference in how the truck handles the corners with this set up. Because it is such a big wheel, the profile of the tire is lower and therefore, you don't feel any tire roll when accelerating hard through a corner. What is surprising though, is how well they absorb the bumps in the road. I expected the ride to be harsher because of the lower profile, but the fact is that it absorbs the bumps better than my old tires AT HIGHER PRESSURE.
It really is a great combination.
