What is the Diameter of our driveshafts?

I am hoping someone can post the specs on the front & rear driveshafts of a 2005 Quad Cab Short Bed 4X4 for me, as I am unable to measure them for myself right now (still overseas). At the minimum I need the diameter. All specs for the 3rd Gens are also welcome if someone has that information available. After a thorough search, I was surprised to not find the information. Thanks everyone!

I didn't see this post until today. I can get you dimensions during the day tomorrow. My original rear driveshaft was about 4" diameter in the center and necked down to about 3-1/2" diameter at each end. The replacement driveshaft I bought from Chrysler is 3-1/2" diameter from end to and has beefier yokes than the original. I have an auto transmission. Iirc the manual trannys get slightly bigger ujoints.

Here is a picture of the original driveshaft. It is about 4. 03" diameter in the center and necks down to about 3. 55" diameter at both ends. The Chrysler replacement shaft is the same diameter from end to end (3. 55"). The overall length is about 67-5/8" from the flange to the tip of the slip yoke. The driveshaft itself is about 56-1/8" from ujoint center to ujoint center.



The front shaft is about 2. 52" diameter and has an installed length on my truck of about 33-1/4". That is from the face of the tcase flange to the face of the pinion flange.

Weird, I just had my u-joints replaced yesterday on my '06 2500 automatic qc short bed, and mine is 3 1/2 inches all the way front to back. After my local truck shop replaced my u-joints with the wrong size, TWICE IN 3 DAYS, I took it to a driveshaft place. They informed me that although the u-joints look similar to the pre '03 driveshaft, they are not since they are AAM parts, not Spicer. Also, they removed the 5 pound balancer and balanced it electronically. Truck has never been smoother! (Did 95 yesterday on tollway!! shhhhh... ) Just thought that info may help other post '03 owners out when it's time to change u-joints.

I had to replace the drive shaft on the 03 when an u-joint went bad and tore-up the yoke. I bought a whole new drive shaft from mopar. Both were the 3. 55" end to end and made in Mexico.
