I currently own a 2001 diesel 3500

I am considering purchasing a 2nd truck - a 2000 diesel 3500

Are the brakes the same - pads, rotors ect...

Both have 6 speed manuals - are the clutches, transmissions identical?

Will the same Edge EZ work for both trucks?

are all filters (air, fuel, oil) identical??

any known differenced in the engine??

I think the 4 wheel disk Brakes came out in 2001, or was it 2001. 5? The 2000 may still have drum rear brakes

I have a 2000 3500 4X4 and it does have rear drum brakes.

A little off the subject but does anybody have the instructions for a 2000 Torque Converter Lock up mystery switch installation? Going on a trip starting 1/2/03 and would like to do the wiring.

Thanks.

Rear discs are on the 2001. 5's. So if you have rear drums, then they'll match.

Not sure about the comp. Seems like there is a change near there.

And the 2000 6-speed has the smaller input shaft. 1. 25" as opposed to 1. 375".

at least that's the facts as I understand them.

The 2000 should (if memory serves me) have a triangle shaped MAP sensor plug, and the 2001 shold be different (flat maybe?). I know that the 99 and 00 MAP plug were the same, but my 2001. 5 was different. If the MAP is the same then the EZ will work on either, but I doubt that this will be the case in this situation.

If both trucks have drums in the back then all those parts should be the same. If you have disks on the 2001 (I think most call it a 2001. 5) then obviously not too much is going to be the same.

On the 2000 you can look for a spacer behind the starter. As I recall if the spacer is there you have the 'redesigned' 6-speed with the larger input shaft and 13 inch clutch, no spacer indicates the other clutch and smaller input shaft.

Again all of this is from memory and subject to be wrong. If it is wrong I'm sure somebody will set me straight.

Both disc/drum brake systems are the exact same (if your truck has rear drums). Fronts are the same (if yours has rear disc). Wheels/tires are the same.

The 6spd trannys are basically the same, with exception of the input shaft and the clutch. The 00 will have the smaller input shaft and a 12. 25" clutch, the 01 will have the bigger input shaft and a 13. 00" clutch. The input shafts are 1/8" difference in size.

No the EZ will not interchange between both trucks. The 00 has triangle shaped MAP sensor plugs like the 98-00, and the 01 has flat shaped MAP sensor plugs like the 01-later.

Yes all air, fuel, oil filters are the same for the 00 and 01

Engine: the 00 is a 235hp rated engine, the 01 is a 245hp rated engine. The injection pump, injectors, ecm programming are different between the two years and will not interchange well.
