Well, this site has been teaching me a lot of things I never knew about my CTD. I know you guys have saved my VP44 by me checking my fuel pressure. Ended up replacing the lift pump which was under warranty.

Anyways, I see in a lot of the sigs in this forum and in certain posts that some guys either have a ETH or a ETC engine. Can you guys elaborate on that. I am concluding that the HO models are ETH, but not totally sure.

Thanks for any help,

JD

Your right - ETH is High Output. HO run higher compression, different injectors, and modified VP44 as well as up-until the 2003's were only available with 6 speeds.

Yeah, that was going to be my next questions about the difference between the two. I knew the injectors were different, but didn't know about the compression and pump differences. It would seem that the ETC would be able to take a hair more abuse with it being lower compression (I assume lower).

What are the differences between the VP44's???

Not sure about the differences with the VP's, would like to here more about that one myself.

There are other structural differences between the ETC and ETH as well, including pistons, flywheel, and clutch.

The ETH (HO) injectors flow less than the standard output ETC. I've seen a post here of the difference but can't recall (600 HO vs. 660 SO... or something like that).

Most threads I've seen talking about upgrading the engine say that the ETC (standard output) responds better to an electronic fueling box and the ETH (HO) responds better to larger injectors.

I think the ETH also had better cooling nozzles. In general it had a few bells and whistles that Cummins added to it to allow it to last as long as the standard ETC, but have slightly more power.
