Nice IH! Must like Typhoons for breakfast!

I know one difference between the HX35 and the 92 vintage H1C that I had, the HX35 doesn't have that awful fluttering sound caused by compressor stall like the H1C does, especially with the BHAF. The HX has a cool whine too, not to mention more boost at the RPM where the H1C stalls. How do you like your HX40? I've been thinking about getting Piers HX35 when funds are in abundance and I doubt the First Gen VE pump has enough fueling for a HX40. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but I think a WH1C is a H1C that has a 12cm wastegated housing and I believe it only came on the early 94 Ram. Fritz's webpage seems to cover it a bit.

Mike my turbo is an HX35 with a 12cm waste gate housing and an HX40 compressor wheel and housing I bolted on to it. I works great for me. Some people would run a 16cm housing but I like the instant response. I got the compressor stuff on ebay. Look it up under Cummins. I now have a H1C I want to use on a different project and I am thinking about buying the HX40 compressor side for it too from the same ebay guy.

Treven.

Hey Trevin, will this mod work on the 1st gen engines?, what kind of money are they asking, if you don't mind me asking?

One thing that I've heard, and I hope someone can correct me if I'm in error, but the H1C turbo needs to be balanced when installing the HX40/hybrid pinwheel kit. But I've also heard that it isn't necessary if the turbo has the 12 sided nut on the compressor side of the shaft, meaning that the individual sections of the turbo are already balanced before they are assembled. I believe that if the turbo has the 6 sided compressor nut like my H1C had, then the turbo would need balanced when installing the hybrid kit. Does anyone knows if this same rule applies to the HX35? However, I'm still leaning towards getting my HX35 Piersified. Piers and his shop are truely awesome people to work with.

Ray here is the one I just bought from the guy on ebay for my H1C first gen turbo http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=1874428596&rd=1

Mike I also bought the one for My HX35 from the same guy. He said the compnents are individually balanced even for the hex nut turbos. I hope he is right. I just bolted the stuff on and it is working fine. I hit pretty high boost - Like 40 psi but for a very short time. The hardest part of the install was the snap ring on the Hx35 is very hart to reinstall. You need some giant snap ring pliers I did not have. Definatly wear saftey glasses because that thing can really fly!

Piers is great! Got everthing else from him. I would have done the turbo too probably except for having to ship it to him and them shipped back + time. If you want to run it really hard it sure would make for better piece of mind to have the whole thing balanced after the install.

Anybody got the part number for the pinwheel? I checked into getting an HX40 compressor wheel at my local shop and the guy said "Which one, there are about 70 of them. "

How much of a difference did it make? Do you have before and after numbers? Did it help much with smoke and EGT's?

Mike

I can't help with the part #s because I long since through out the box. I will be getting the new one for my H1c soon. Why not get it from the guy on ebay. He has worked out all the part #s and is probably the cheapest around.

Mike: I put the HX40 compressor on my truck along with 370 injectors, timing, fuel pump mods etc. I have no before and after. All I can say is my truck is the fastest thing I have ever owened and I am:D

Boy, I bet those Typhoons must really be tasty! Not to mention Vettes, Lightnings, Ninjas, rocket sleds, etc. I can just imagine the look on some ricer's face when he tastes the smoke and realizes that he had his doors blown off by a diesel:D Just curious, have you ever timed a 1/4 mile yet?

I know what you mean about the snap-ring on the HX35, one miss slip and that thing shoots around the shop like Bugs Bunnie's bullet before it parts Yosemite Sams hair! I wound up using a big set of Channel Locks with the teeth gouped up with valve grinding compound for grip and a little patience. I used the safety glasses too, GOOD TIP!!

Mike I havn't done the 1/4 mile. My Dana 44 axle is holding up fine for now but I don't want to break it. I did accelerate up a steep hill in fourth gear with some freinds in the truck that wanted to see how it ran. It broke the rear wheels free at about 35-40 mph on dry pavement in 4th gear! I better not drive it like that all the time though!

Had to teach a little lesson to a kid driving his parents Cady Northstar the other day climbing the mountain out of San Jose to Santa Cruz. I could see him passing everybody in the right lane in my rear view mirror. I let him get paralel with me and then gave the Cummins some #2. We did this about twice and he gave up.
