I am looking to replace my stockers with Bilstein and wanted to know what the difference was between the 5100 and the yellow and blue. I have a non-lifted 2006 megacab 4x4, stock tires and tow my 5th wheel. Is there a larger piston or rod or valve? Basically I wanted to know if the price difference is worth it. I do prefer the zinc coating of the 5100 series.

Thanks for the help

Here's a reply from Andy at Geno's in this thread:

According to our Bilstein rep, the silver/black shocks are not designed for a specific application. They are multi-application shocks that have the travel to accomodate stock-height, 4x4, trucks, and 4x4 trucks with up to 2" lift for leveling. We only offer these shocks for 4x4 trucks.

If you want a shock that is designed, specifically, for the Dodge HD, you will end up with the yellow/blue shock. We have vehicle specific shocks (yellow/blue) for '89-'07 Dodge 2500, and 3500, 2wd, and 4x4.

All of the Bilsteins that we carry come with a manufacturer's lifetime warranty.

Hope this helps.

I assume the "5100's" your referring to are the "silver and black" ones mentioned in the thread.

Same?

More or less the same on the inside as far as size.

The silver ones tend to be valved a bit stiffer than the yellow ones.

If you want bigger pistons and shafts you are talking big bucks and Fox, King, Ect.

I thought some of the "silver and black" ones from the performance suspension vendors where specifically valved for the HD Rams? I remember seeing KORE has some that use a different model number... 6688 or something.
